We recently connected with Angela Posillico and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela , thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
To be successful, you must surround yourself with good people, Success is never about yourself, but how you are able to help others. As I always say, it is never about me. It is about the individuals that work along with me. That is how success should be measured.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
How I got into the pageant industry is two fold. For over 28 years, I was in the cosmetic industry. I worked for many top cosmetics companies such as, Lancome, Estee Lauder, Chanel, Shiseido, Sephora, and a host of many others. These cosmetic lines were found in such prestigious retail stores as Bergdorf Goodman, Saks, Henri Bendel, Bloomingdales and Nordstrom. I had the distinct pleasure of working for these top retailers in New York City. While working in the cosmetic industry, I also had the opportunity of meeting many pageant contestants, who came to me on advice for their competition makeup. As my reputation grew in the industry, I was hired by many pageant organizations as the official makeup artist for their national competitions. I had a few winners with some of the contestants. The other avenue that led me into pageantry, I am also a trained singer. I graduated the Julliard Academy of Music with a degree in Operatic Studies, and also performed in the east coast tour for Phantom of the Opera.
While attending one of the pageants as a makeup artist, it was announced that the singer scheduled to perform, did not show up. Since everyone knew that I was a singer, I was asked to sing that evening. So I graduated from makeup artist to singer, and I was now performing at many national and international pageants.
In 1996, I left the makeup and singing behind, and competed in the Mrs. New Jersey Globe Pageant. I won the title, and went on to compete at the national competition, where I made the top 10.
I then became the New Jersey State Director for the Mrs. Globe Organization for over 5 years.
I was the opening act for the Mrs. U.S. Globe awards, and also won “Director of the Year” in 1996.
As director of the year, I won an all expense paid trip to the International Mrs. Globe Pageant in Greece.
In 2000, I moved to Florida, where I started the Ms. Latina International Pageant. Since the Latin community was very popular in Florida, my concept was to have a “cross over” pageant for Latin Women. Simply meaning, that as long as they had a 25% Latin background, they could compete in Ms. Latina, and still represent their country of origin, even if living in the United States. We also accepted delegates living in the Latin countries.
What also made us unique and different, is we were the only Latin pageant that had a scholarship program for our winners.
The Latina pageant became so successful, that women from other countries that did not have a Latin background were not able to compete. Thus, gave birth to the Ms. International World Pageant, where we now have women from around the world competing.

Let’s move on to buying businesses – can you talk to us about your experience with business acquisitions?
Yes, the first business I bought was a full service salon. It was called, “Sophistique Salon”. At the salon, we did hair, nails, facials, and full massages.
I bought the salon as I wanted to bring my New York beauty experience to many women who never had the opportunity to experience what it was like to be in a “New York City” beauty atmosphere.
Here’s the thing, I did not acquire it, I started and designed it from scratch!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
How I built my audience on social media is to constantly advertise with new and innovative stories on what my organization is currently doing, along with our upcoming events and future plans. I also keep my social media strictly business, and do not mix any of my personal information.
My advice to those starting to build their social media presence, follow my advice above.
