We recently connected with Angela Oostman and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela, thanks for joining us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I do manage the social media for my small businesses. I decided to manage my social media accounts mainly because I have the idea in my head of what I want it to look like. The flow of the page is in my head, and I can not explain that to anyone. My advice if you want the right social media following for you and your business is transparency. Transparency is key. Social media likes uncensored realness.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Angela, a wife, mom, and full-time employee. I got into this “side hustle” because my daughter started showing more elite horse shows, and I was looking for ways to make extra money. I started Crazy Canter Consignment, a horse tack consignment shop. Our location, Crown Point, IN, has a few Tack Shops. There is Tony’s Saddle Shop in Valparaiso, IN. Then there is Bedrock & LK Tack Shop in Illinois. The horse community typically has multiple tack swaps when the weather is good. Tack Swaps are great, but most people want to avoid lugging their things around, so they come to us! We had to modify our system as we grew. We went from operation hours to specific ship days. What sets us apart from others is that we care, like really care. When I started this in 2020, I never thought it would be as popular as we are, growing daily. We grow not just in size but also in goals. I have launched two other brands from Crazy Canter Consignment, which will go further than Crazy Canter Consignment. Cut-N-Run was born in January of 2024. Our word for 2024 was pivotal. There were no New Year resolutions, but it was a word that seemed more straightforward to be accountable for. We did just that. We evolved, and 2024 is to be the best year yet. We restructured to allow our clients to list their items and horses. Horses should be registered and can be embryo to full-grown horses, name-brand saddles, and personalized laser items.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I pivoted this year. I changed up the entire business, including our name. I have been SO busy with my day job that I am having difficulty keeping up with logging, taking photos, and keeping track of everything. So, I decided to launch Cut-N-Run. Cut-N-Run is a “self-service classifieds” type of platform. There are restrictions to listing, however it’s easy! NO commission, ads run in 90-day intervals, etc.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
The initial capital was from me. Everything came out of my pocket. I didn’t earn a “paycheck” from my small business like they say you should. I would sell a saddle, take the commission, and buy business cards. Then I would sell some of my personal horse tacks and then take that and purchase some new “eye-catching western” items to draw some new people in. We did that till we were where we are today! Custom graphic tops, laser hides, leather, and so much more! Plus, any used items that people bring to us to list.
