Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angela Oltmanns. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Angela thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I believed I started my creative career at the time I am meant to do so. Not a minute sooner or later! For many years, I poured a lot of my creative energy into building a home and family – these are the things and people that matter much to me. Now that my children are older and more self-sufficient, I am able to create a number of online shops, offer digital design services and interview people for my writing work. I love a simple but rewarding and productive life. Many of the things I wanted to do could not be executed affordably and with ease until lately. The 2020 pandemic upended many things we cherish but it also ushered many new ways of doing things digitally, using a variety of efficient technology we never thought of. The current landscape has allowed me to do many things creatively without unnecessary cost and waste.
Angela, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
All the online shops I helped create have very little carbon footprint! The products are made only when an order is made.
As a creative, this is heaven! For my shop, Simple Daily Joy, I am able to create many designs of spiral notebooks, mugs, stickers and digital products without accumulating a stockpile of inventory. I’m happy when a customer orders something they like. But I also offer so much more as a creative leader in the marketplace.
If you check out my social handles, you’d quickly notice that I am not just an online retailer. I’m also a life coach, a writer, an interviewer, a content creator and video storyteller. This means my tribe and following is very diverse and have different needs.
Some buy the physical or digital products I offer. Others join my community because they want to learn new digital skills, have some coaching or pick up fresh ideas. One thing is clear though – I love using my creativity to contribute to your own creative life. It is my sincere hope that you will create your own version of simple daily joy.
Thanks for shopping and connecting via my various social handles!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
That if I work harder or hustle more, the results will come quicker. Anyone doing creative work knows that it is hard to produce beautiful, creative quality work if you are on that kind of treadmill. Burnout results and what was fun before is not anymore.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I am originally from Singapore. At the time I was growing up, the culture there did not foster or promote much creativity. I was hungry for it though. I never thought I could be a creative or even live a creative life! In the US which I later moved to, there was more opportunity and freedom for me to explore my creativity. Even then I never took that path seriously or professionally. After over two decades of living here, the creative and bold spirit here has rubbed off tremendously on me. I’m thankful for that and I’ve grown so much as a human being. My creative path has certainly made me a more compassionate human being. I hope my journey will inspire many to boldly take their creative mettle up and share their beautiful messages and work with the world as well.
