Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angela Morano. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Angela, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think there’s a lot of factors that determines how successful you’ll be. In the music industry, obviously there is an expectation of talent and skill that has to be met, but what I’ve found is that one of the most defining qualities of successful people is simply being genuine and kind. You could be the most talented person in the room, but if you are unkind or egotistical then it will be impossible to become successful in this industry. I’m lucky enough to be surrounded by the most genuine people I know and those are the people that make creating music even more rewarding!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a singer/songwriter based in Nashville! I graduated Berklee College of Music a few years back and moved here afterwards to pursue my dream of being a songwriter. Since moving, I’ve had the opportunity to not only write more, but also have been able to perform live with various bands and local artists playing keys for them. I’ve been playing piano since around age 5 and have been writing songs since age 11. I have always had an admiration for lyricism and storytelling – something I learned from listening to artists like Billy Joel and the Eagles growing up. My songs have been acknowledged and awarded by the Nashville GrammyU Chapter where I won the 2024 Songwriting Competition!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative is simply being able to create. Having an outlet like songwriting to turn to when life feels like it’s throwing its hardest punches is one of the best parts of being a writer. To create something out of thin air is so beautiful and I think it’s easy to forget that.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think from the outside looking in, pursuing a life in a creative career path can seem far fetched. I, myself, have questioned the practicality of it all. Something I would like for people to understand is that all artists and creatives have to start somewhere. The world revolves around art and music; to expect these things to exist without people taking chances is an unreal expectation. Your favorite singer or songwriter or artist started out where we all start out – at the bottom, looking up towards a dream.
