We were lucky to catch up with Angela Martinez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Angela , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
When I started my podcast in 2020, I never realized I was going to be on a longgg mission to success. Being arrested for weed in Jersey and then moving to Vegas, I originally wanted to break the stigma on cannabis, but it has grown into so much more. Fast forward 3 years and I now focus on the challenges and solutions in the Cannabis, Creative, Mental Health & Wellness, Adult Industry and Food spaces. After learning others can heal from serious illness and addiction with plants, my mind was blown. I also starting learning the power of an alkaline diet and how to clean your blood so you can be disease free at any age. Growing up around addiction, negativity and mental health disorders, my mission is now to help others on their healing journey with my long list of trusted resources in plant medicine, energy therapy, self care and more. I also love showcasing Creatives and Adult Industry as the entrepreneurial journey is different for everyone and it takes real grind and hustle to get ahead.
Angela , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I created Faded Truth Podcast during the 2020 Pandemic when my busy life was shut down abruptly. Always an intuitive & outspoken individual, I decided to create a platform where I could dig deep into the minds of creatives and movers and shakers of our generation. Fast forward to now reaching over 1 million listeners with my brand being centered around 5 topics; Cannabis, Creatives, Health & Wellness, Taboo & Food Porn. Faded Truth takes an honest approach while highlighting the highs and lows that come with our day-to-day lives. I give great resources to find knowledge, with each episode providing a new focus on topics that the mainstream often overlooks. And you know the Truth always comes out when you’re Faded! I allow my guests to be passionate and personal, often bonding us beyond a podcast episode, creating a special collective community.
I used to listen to Rude Jude on Shade 45 Sirius XM all the time and think “How can I make money off talking sh*t?” So my friend at Hip Hop News Uncensored sent me a list of equipment I would need to start a Youtube. I learned Final Cut through share screen from a friend and the rest is history. I put out my first video on Youtube in May 2020 and have since created and edited over 300 episodes, as well as transitioned to my own subscription platform directly through my website FadedTruth.com. My first episode was on polygamy and I wanted to talk about the stuff most people dont hear women say. Then I started interviewing friends with any talent or business; rapping, cooking, art, whatever. It spiraled into constant content and I really had no plan or direction. Now I’ve found that my platform is gearing me into my life’s purpose.
What Im providing is new knowledge and solutions for problems one might have in any of these industries. If you’re a creative and need your music heard, check out my interview with John Nichols, creator of a distribution platform that monetizes artists of all kinds in over 30 ways! If you’re looking to start an OnlyFans and dont know how, check out Onyx Muse as she breaks down safe ways to create adult content. Wondering who the first legal hash maker was and how to create the right bubble hash? Nikka T is the episode for you! Thought of therapy but too scared to take the leap? Laura Cantu is an energy healer that changed my life. Sick and tired of being sick and tired? Izeah Bowman is the blueprint for nutritional health.
I think Im most proud that Ive been able to talk to some of the biggest names in all these categories and actually have a genuine conversation. My memorable interviews were with my fav childhood actor Jason Weaver, Jersey legend Redman, and traveling to Usha Village in Honduras to heal in “Left Eyes” hut. My life has done a 180 after starting my show and opening my mental to things I used to scoff at. My advice for anyone reading is that YOU are in complete control of your surroundings. This includes media, people, energies, food, jobs and where you choose to grow old. If you dont like where you’re at in life, it’s your sole responsibility to do something about it.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2017, I was grinding away per usual, working 3 jobs in casinos, bars and sales. Unfortunately, Atlantic City’s economy was hit hard after multiple hurricanes destroyed our small town. My nightclub job I was at for 6 years gave us 3 weeks notice they were shutting the doors, my beach bar job was seasonal, and my office went bankrupt. I lost 3 jobs within a couple months and it was the first time I felt “If I dont GTFO now, I’ll be stuck here forever”. I had some money stacked and thought “Its now or never”. I fly to Miami during a hurricane smh and interview at a premier club. After realizing I would be dealing with the same environmental disasters and no family to evacuate too, I switched my vision to the Atlantic City on steroids, Vegas. A month before I move, I get the call my brother is dead from an overdose. A few days later, my bank account gets levied for 15k from an old car repossession that came back to bite me. I remember sitting in my room and just weeping. Working as hard as I have for my whole life, I felt defeated. Not only for myself, but my family who was constantly suffering from addictions, losses and unresolved trauma. I think if I had closer connections to my family I would have stayed. But for the first time my emotional walls came in handy and I knew I couldn’t break the pattern by staying in Jersey. I load up my truck and 3 dogs and drive 46 hours straight to Vegas to begin my new life.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I love reading. I was that girl waiting in the Harry Potter line waiting for the next book to drop at midnight lol. One impactful book I re read is called Letting Go by David Hawkins. We really underestimate the blockages we hold internally from childhood until adult life. This book gives great insight into finding peace within yourself which in turn helps immensely in all relationships, business or personal. The Audacity to Be Queen by Gina Devee sounds like I could be the author. Her East Coast unapologetic approach towards life can give anyone a kick in the butt to create the life you deserve. Outwitting the Devil by Napoleon Hill is a must read if you want to learn the secrets of society and how to recognize the multiple ways we let the Devil in unconsciously. What to Say When You Talk To Yourself by Shad Helmstetter helped me realize how easy it is to train your brain to avoid some of the cancers we allow to grow there.
