We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Angela Keller a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Angela, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Don’t be afraid to take risks and step out of your comfort zone. After spending over a decade as a public relations executive and coaching clients how to speak on camera and to the media, I had an opportunity to take my career in a new direction which included being an on-camera spokesperson and style expert. While it was initially intimidating to transition to being in front of the camera, I discovered a new talent and absolutely love this part of my business!
Angela, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My passion for fashion and helping women put their best foot forward is why I created Mom Style Lab. Developing your own style and personal brand that makes you feel confident is a powerful tool whether you are an executive, entrepreneur or a stay-at-home mom. Your image is an important part of how people perceive you, from your boss and colleagues to your friends and kids. Mom Style Lab’s goal is to inspire women by sharing stories about moms who rock, fashion and beauty tips, style advice, and relevant lifestyle topics. In addition, I also write for a variety of print and online publications, plus tape regular style segments for broadcast media. I’ve been in the fashion industry for 20 years as a publicist, writer, stylist and on-air TV style expert. Prior to fashion, my focus was on high-tech and consumer public relations, working for companies like Microsoft and Intel. As a result, I also apply my in-depth knowledge of the role technology plays in fashion today to expand my brand.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, there’s nothing more rewarding than a happy and confident client or follower. When I’ve been able to help someone through a styling session to launch the next chapter of their life, build a look or brand for an event or launch that’s important to them, or simply ignite a fire through my writing or advice in the media to put their best foot forward, I have achieved my goal. The way we look and present ourselves goes far beyond the superficial exterior. Ultimately, our appearance impacts how we communicate, our confidence, and whether or not we are successful in life.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I am currently in the midst of an unexpected major pivot that has already been life changing and has me rethinking the next evolution of my brand and career. Earlier this year I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma and am currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments. While my cancer is very treatable and curable, it has altered the way I look at everything. I have a strong desire to help other women going through situations similar to my own. After all, the majority of us have been or will be touched by cancer at some point in our lives. While being forced to sit out of a large part of my normal work, I’ve been heavily focused on my writing. Stay tuned for new projects!
