We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Angela Jurgensen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Angela below.
Angela, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Becoming a yoga instructor came at a time in my life when I needed it the most—a moment of deep reflection, uncertainty, and inner questioning. What, initially, began as a simple physical practice quickly evolved into something much greater: a journey of self-discovery, healing, and profound transformation. At that time, I found myself at a crossroads, grappling with questions about my purpose and the deeper meaning of my path. I felt a pull toward something more, a desire to contribute beyond myself and serve others meaningfully
Yoga became the bridge between my struggles and my dharma. It provided me with the space to listen, to be present, and to embrace vulnerability rather than seeking perfection. Through every breath and movement, I realized that the practice wasn’t just about what happened on the mat—it was about the way I reacting to life. The more I leaned into my practice, the more I understood that teaching was not just about guiding others through poses; it was about holding space for them to explore their journeys, just as I had done.
In stepping into the role of an instructor, I found clarity and a renewed sense of purpose. Yoga became my way of serving, helping others reconnect with themselves, letting go of expectations, and embracing the beauty of being fully present. The journey wasn’t just about finding my healing—it was about creating a space where others could heal theirs too.
I strive to guide my students to be aware of themselves but find stillness amid the chaos of life. My goal is to empower individuals to go deep within, listen to their bodies, honor their journeys, and step into their fullest potential—on and off the mat.
Yoga transformed my life, and I am passionate about sharing its wisdom so others can experience its profound benefits. Whether you are stepping onto the mat for the first time or deepening your practice, I am here to support you with compassion, authenticity, and joy.

Angela, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Angela Jurgensen, Brazilian, and 64 years old. Married to Rick Jurgensen for 37 years, with three wonderful, handsome boys, Andre 34. Arthur, 32, and Alec, 26, two amazing daughter-in-laws and two lovely grandkids, Liam 6 and 1/2 and Ava 4 years old.
We moved to Florida in 1994; it was quite an experience, although happy because it was our dream to leave abroad. My husband and I had the same experience living in our early ages; him at 16 came here to the US, and me at 20 years old in England, The first couple of years here with two little kids were filled with challenges as we adjusted to a new culture and environment while balancing the demands of raising them while my husband travelled quite a bit. In 1998 came my third boy, adding more responsibilities to my life, but his arrival was indeed the best addition to our family. The transition of not having a professional career in the US was interesting, and leaving behind the corporate job as a bilingual secretary to multinational companies to dedicate myself to my family was discovering a lot about myself as a mother and housewife. It was a great decision, but I had to reinvent myself and find a way to live the best life around my family. I made wonderful friends and enjoyed all the fun of being a full-time mom, creating deep connections, and cultivating a lifetime friendship. When the boys were in school, I worked hard, and my efforts eventually led me to discover new paths that aligned with my passions. I dedicated my time to various activities, from arts and crafts, painting, gardening, and translation to family adventures, freelance jobs, and volunteering at school. In 2005, we moved to Texas due to my husband’s job. Through my school volunteer work, I transitioned into a career in the educational field within public schools, as an inclusion teacher at the Special Ed classes first at an elementary level, then middle school. What an amazing experience! At the end of 2010, we moved to Wildwood, MO. It was a different challenge, not knowing what to do because our time here could be short. I was completely wrong about that, which means the Universe always has a plan for us. After six months, I decided to work and got a job at the School District at Early Childhood as a paraprofessional. After 5 years, I discovered my deep passion for yoga, not only for my practice; this journey began at a pivotal time in my life. It took me in a new direction, helping me flow with life and heal my body. Through determination, I earned certifications in both Adult and Kids Yoga. Yoga became a source of strength and stability, enriching my personal and professional growth, which has helped me navigate life’s complexities and embrace every moment with my family.
I began teaching yoga in 2016 at a local Community Center, teaching adults while still working at the school and Lifetime Fitness as a children’s yoga instructor. In 2018, I shifted my focus to practicing and teaching only yoga within the local school district, teaching staff, leading mindfulness workshops for school staff during PD days, supporting the community in many ways, and continuing with children’s yoga at Lifetime Fitness, a private spectrum school and private students. I am deeply grateful for these opportunities, which have shaped me and given me the courage to start my own business in May 2024.
For years, I dedicated myself to serving the School District and my Community, sharing the gift of yoga with those who needed it most. It was a fulfilling journey, where I felt supported, valued, and deeply connected to a mission greater than myself. Yoga was recognized as a powerful tool for well-being among teachers and community students, and I took pride in being part of that movement.
But as time passed, things changed. The support I once had began to fade, and I found myself standing at a crossroads. The place where I had poured so much of my heart no longer upheld the same belief in yoga’s transformative power. I felt the push to let go of what was familiar, even though the uncertainty ahead was daunting. The fear of stepping into the unknown weighed heavily on me. Could I build something of my own? Could I create a space where yoga continues to be honored for the well-being it brings? How could I manage my business and have time to do what I love the most, being on the mat?
Despite the fear, courage called to me. I knew deep down that my purpose hadn’t changed—only the path had. So, I chose to embrace this new journey and step forward with faith and trust in the practice that has always guided me. Trusting the Universe’s timing and letting things unfold naturally was in my mindset.
I take great pride in my unique approach to teaching. During Covid, I embraced the challenge of being in front of the camera, navigating technical hurdles, and uncovering strengths I never knew I had. With the unwavering support of my closest friends and dedicated students seeking relief from COVID-related stress, I found new ways to be creative with my yoga flows, allowing my heart to guide me in exploring different styles. It was a huge success, and I found new ways to be creative with my yoga flows, allowing my heart to guide me in exploring different styles. This experience pushed me to adapt, grow, and connect with my students in deeper, more meaningful ways, strengthening my belief in yoga’s resilience and transformative power. The teaching itself has come naturally, and it has flowed smoothly. However, I am still learning to navigate the administrative aspects of my business, such as mastering the platform I use to launch my various classes online and hybrid, including Vinyasa Flow, Restorative, Yin, Hatha Yoga, and Chair Yoga. My goal is to offer encouragement that focuses not only on physical well-being but also on promoting mindfulness and emotional resilience. In my classes, there is a sense of connection, a space where people can come together while being aware of their bodies, minds, and hearts, expressing their uniqueness. I am proud of my commitment to making every student feel good about who they are. My philosophy is that yoga is not one-size-fits-all; everyone is welcome in my classes.
Through it all, I have been blessed with incredible students, those who trust me, support me, and inspire me every day. Their belief in my teachings, dedication to their practice, and encouragement remind me why I do this. They have given me the strength to keep going, to build something meaningful, and to continue sharing yoga in a way that stays true to my heart.
This journey is just a process of evolving, and while fear still lingers, it is no match for the gratitude and passion that fuel me. I am excited for what is unfolding, believing this is an opportunity to build a legacy, an expression of my soul, that takes time, determination, and patience. Not everything needs to be perfect, and that’s where yoga thrives, heals, and transforms just as it always has.
One of my greatest rewards is receiving wonderful and inspiring student testimonials. Their words assure me of the power of connection, growth, and healing through yoga together. It invigorates me to listen to students sharing how yoga has changed their lives. These stories encourage and inspire me to continue my journey with gratitude and to grow my business. They remind me to embrace who I became and cherish the stories and students in my path.
My advice is to keep being a student. We all learn from one another, and practicing self-growth, self-compassion, self-care, and humility are the keys to finding strength and peace to cope with life. By nurturing this community, I assure you we can all grow together, transforming and making a difference, not only in our lives but also in the lives of all around us.
* Yoga is not one-size-fits-all
* Yoga has no color, shape, size, or age
* Yoga is not a religious practice; it is a practice of self-growth
* Yoga does not compete
* Yoga is not about mastering poses
* Yoga does not judge
* Yoga is inclusive
* Yoga is love
This new venture continues to lead me in bringing the best of myself to the community. Yoga helps me feel my best, honoring my needs to flow with life compassionately, strength and peace. I strive to pass this on to my students.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Through this journey, I have also learned the importance of resilience in the face of criticism. There is no perfect yoga teacher who pleases everyone, and I had to develop the courage not to become attached to every opinion. I recall a time when a student gave me harsh feedback about my teaching style, saying that she was used to her old yoga teacher and the way I taught was too fast for her, which initially shook my confidence. But instead of letting it define me, I reflected on what was useful and let go of what wasn’t. Yoga teaches us non-attachment, and I realized that by staying true to my authentic self and my passion for teaching, I would continue to attract those who resonate with my approach. This lesson has been one of my greatest strengths, embracing growth without losing sight of who I am.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
One of the most effective strategies for growing my clientele has been building genuine connections with my students and fostering a supportive community. Word-of-mouth referrals from dedicated students have played a significant role, as has engaging with my community, both online and in person. Offering personalized guidance, creating meaningful experiences, and ensuring my classes remain accessible and welcoming have allowed my practice to grow organically. By staying true to my values and focusing on the well-being of my students, I have been able to cultivate a loyal and expanding community.
