We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Angela Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Angela, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

Glimmers Clothing was inspired by my journey to find light during some of life’s darkest times. Growing up in the FLDS community, I faced challenges that shaped me in ways I never expected. When I found freedom and began building a new life with my husband, Cade, and our children, I learned to cherish the small glimmers of hope and joy that helped me keep going.

My rainbow baby, Mia, was one of those glimmers—a beautiful light after a storm. She inspired me to design clothing that reflects that same hope: comfortable, vibrant, and fun pieces that bring a smile to your face. Glimmers Clothing is my way of celebrating those little moments of goodness that remind us there’s always light to be found, even in the hardest times.

I knew Glimmers Clothing was a worthwhile endeavor because it came from such a meaningful place. I wasn’t just designing clothing; I was creating something I wished I had—soft, vibrant, and joyful pieces that bring comfort, especially during life’s hard times. The logic was clear to me: people are drawn to things that make them feel good, not just physically but emotionally, too.

What excited me most was the opportunity to bring something truly unique to the table and to share joy through my designs. Many clothing brands offer beautiful designs, but I wanted Glimmers to go beyond that. I focused on creating pieces with bamboo fabric, which is luxuriously soft and perfect for all-day wear, combined with vibrant, fun prints that spark joy.

I was solving a problem I didn’t see fully addressed: offering clothing that’s not just stylish and comfortable but also meaningful. Glimmers is about celebrating the little glimmers of hope and joy in life, something I think resonates with so many people. Seeing how much others connected with that vision made me confident this was an idea worth pursuing

Angela, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Ange, the founder of Glimmers Clothing. My journey to starting this business is deeply personal and shaped by my life experiences. I grew up in the FLDS community (a high demand religion), and after leaving family, everything I had ever known and that whole world behind, I focused on building a life full of hope, love, and resilience with my husband, Cade, and our three children. Along the way, I realized how important it was to hold onto the little glimmers of light that helped us navigate challenges.

In addition to running Glimmers Clothing, I’m also a nurse, and caring for and helping others has always been my passion. It is an honor for me to be able to help and be there for patients in their hardest times, and their biggest joys. Whether it’s through my work in healthcare or creating clothing that brings comfort and joy, my goal is to make a positive difference in people’s lives.

Glimmers Clothing is my way of sharing that hope and joy with others. We create vibrant, fun, and incredibly soft bamboo clothing designed to make people feel as good as they look. What sets us apart is not just the high-quality, sustainable materials we use but the heart and meaning behind every design. Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?

I keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty by focusing on connection and community. For me, it’s all about making sure our customers feel seen, valued, and appreciated.

That same drive and resilience that carried me through nursing school as a first-generation college graduate with two young children is exactly what fuels my work at Glimmers Clothing. Starting this business wasn’t easy, but I was determined to make it a reality. Just like in nursing school, I have to juggle multiple roles, work long hours, and push through moments of doubt and exhaustion. But every challenge has only strengthened my resolve to keep going.

When I launched Glimmers, I brought that same passion for helping others, creating something meaningful, and overcoming obstacles with me. I knew there would be tough days—times when the work felt overwhelming, and the progress seemed slow. But my experiences as a nurse and a mother taught me that persistence and heart can move mountains.

At Glimmers, that drive shows up in everything I do. It’s in the way I approach our designs, making sure they are not only beautiful but purposeful—comfortable, vibrant, and full of meaning. It’s in the way I run the business, striving to always offer high-quality, sustainable clothing that resonates with people on a deeper level. And it’s in the way I connect with our customers, always listening, always striving to make them feel valued and appreciated.

Just like with nursing school, the journey with Glimmers hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge is an opportunity to grow. I know that the same resilience that helped me achieve my dreams in the past will continue to propel me forward in this new chapter, making Glimmers a brand that is about more than just clothes—it’s about strength, hope, and celebrating life’s little glimmers of joy.
