We were lucky to catch up with Angela Jean recently and have shared our conversation below.
Angela, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Every single memory I have has me wanting to do music.
My earliest memory includes sitting on my great grandmother’s lap to reach the keys,on an old upright piano. She explained the piano to me patiently. The room had cream and floral striped wallpaper and her violets grew at the window. She smelled like the peppermint candy she liked. It is a good memory.

Angela, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I see myself foremost as a songwriter. I got into it by writing often, and then I attended Belmont University where I learned about the business side and communications. That has helped me bring my music to different spaces and helped me hang on to my creative property.
Most of what I have learned about songwriting is to forget everything I have ever learned. 😊
I don’t believe there are rules, or a recipe to follow. I believe great songwriting comes from the soul and means something to someone.
Even fun songs mean something because it’s a great memory or time.
I’d like to help people someday with my music. I still have music inside that is waiting to be played.
What sets me apart is,well,my piano teacher said often
“God broke the mold when he made you”…and she meant that in the warmest, funniest way possible. She became like a grandmother to me.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I am petite, and have some hypermobility that causes some differences. It sometimes makes me have to reach things on the keyboard or guitar differently than the average Joe. I could not always reach the way music instructed. I had a random teacher tell me I would never amount to anything as a pianist because of this. At first I cried when she wasn’t around. Then, I knew I would just have to prove her wrong.
Just because a person does not do things the way the world thinks they should does not make them less of a person.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want to help people somehow with music and paintings.
