Angela J., thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, let’s jump into one of the most exciting parts of starting a new venture – how did you get your first client who was not a friend or family?
I received my first client by engaging in conversation, telling the individual about my Poetry Book what the title would be how I felt in my writing, and the title along captured the essence of what I was displaying this person didn’t know me. They actually met me that day when I was doing a pop-up at Balboa Park.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Book Description:
There’s a connection that draws you in. Words that captivate your emotions, bringing you into the thoughts and expressions of the poet. This same connection sometimes brings you to tears while being immersed in truth.
This book of poetry expounds on Urban injustice.
While a mother discusses a way out by just BREATHING, she’s able to come from behind the brick wall. The brick wall that’s stolen our cries, our fears, our mind, our smile, our child; and cause misunderstandings of who, what, why and how we got knocked down!!! All we want to do is bre-e-eathe on the streets where we roam near our homes.
My poems are about the disrespect we suffer because of our beautiful brown skin, our lives are being taken without regret, and our loved ones suffer this repeatedly day after day.
The richness of our Black history is often overlooked and not identifiable in the lives taken.
I write to expose the wrongs committed against (My) Melanin people that are suffering!! Why? Because of the color of their skin, our skin, when all we want is to Breathe! Poetry draws, it sees the heart and accepts me, allowing me to release and not look back with regrets.
My motto “Blessed” to just BREATHE !!!!!

About the Author:
Breathe people. I’m A. J. Turner.
Took my first breath on November 17, 1969.
Not knowing I would become a writer, a poet, a wife, a mother, a Mii Mii of two, and a true Bible believing Christian.
J stands for Joyce a sir name that was graced upon me by Rebecca Joyce Smalls better known as Becky (rest in peace namesake).
By the age of nine, I wrote my first poem to my mother titled “My Rose”
Expressing my love to my mother for being the beauty I saw. The accomplishments, the work ethic, provider, and admiration “My Rose”. The poem was later used on my brother’s obituary and placed on a memorial T-shirt for all to wear expressing my mother’s love for her Rose her only son. I would continue writing poetry over the years teaching my children from home to church. Poems into songs from journals into books I write bereavement poems, prayer poems, healing poems, expressive poems, poems enlightening the mind and capturing your heart in the most vulnerable moments, just keeping it real.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn, depending on people that you’ve sold into to sell back into you. The backstory is I’m a supporter of majority of businesses, especially when it comes to my melanin brothers and sisters I tend to go to pop-ups so that I can learn the trick of the trade on how to network how to engage with others with business concepts. And then it came a point in my life when I made memorabilia wrote my porch books and I looked for that support to come back to me just as I had poured out to others, and to my dismay that didn’t occur so that became a lesson learned to me to not depend on others, that I poured into deport back into me financially Emotionally
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My golden mission was to get my books into libraries to get them into the hands of melanin children men and women and my drive has left me because I’ve had a tragedy in my life but that is still my goal to get my Poetry Book Breathe out there for others to read that is still my goal
