We recently connected with Angela Hill and have shared our conversation below.
Angela, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Photography being my first love and being a documentarian at heart I often kept My DSLR camera on me and would take pictures of my close friends who are community organizers.
I also have always loved T-shirts so I had the idea to merge the two, taking images of my friends and putting them onto t-shirts. “My friends are amazing, “they are Public Figures”, I thought, they just don’t have a platform(this was before the height of social media). Public Figure Brand was formed.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am many things. A visual artist, a lover of t-shirts, an avid manifester. I love to connect with people and co-creating with others as well. Photography is my Jam and so is Public Figure Brand.
I live for each day I wake up to create my day. To create with others, whether it’s photographing an event, headshots, making a design for someone or printing shirts, this is what I do and what I am passionate about but what I’m most passionate about is understanding, knowing and being aware that I have a divine unlimited source within me and that is my power. I’m most passionate about sharing that message and being a light and love to people I encounter everyday.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
First let me start off by saying that your perspective about life and situations are important. There are many things that have happened along my journey specifically as an entrepreneur that I could say would have set me back but I know that I am on the right path and right where I am suppose to be.
For the sake of the question and this interview I will share a story about how an opportunity I had to be in a brick and mortar store and I couldn’t keep up with the requirements after about six months or so I decided I needed to pull Public Figure Brand from the store. I think about how this could have stopped me from continuing on. Being in a retail store was one of my dreams came true and I couldn’t keep up, but what I learned was that dreams come true, I learned what actually goes into having product at a retail store and sometimes what we want isn’t always the best thing. I needed that to see I wasn’t ready. I needed that I show myself that I can continue to do this despite what I think is best.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I love this question! I had to unlearn that there is a specific formula for success and if there was or is that formula would be to remember that there is an unlimited source and supply at my fingertips…and that’s the same for everyone else as well. There’s not much of a backstory besides just living and realizing that life should be grand and I define what success is for me and not anyone else.
