Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angela Hicks. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Angela, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The mission of Nanny On The Go is deeply personal and rooted in both passion and purpose. From the time I was a little girl, I had an undeniable love for babies and children. There was something about their innocence, their need for care, and the joy they brought that always resonated with me. I knew, even then, that I wanted to be someone who made a difference in the lives of children.
But beyond my natural love for children, my journey in life shaped my calling. Growing up without my biological parents and navigating the foster care system exposed me to emotions no child should ever have to feel—neglect, rejection, and uncertainty. I intimately understand what it means to long for stability, security, and love. Those experiences didn’t break me; they became the foundation for my purpose. Instead of allowing my past to define me negatively, I chose to use it as fuel to ensure that other children feel the assurance, safety, and love that I once longed for.
That’s why Nanny On The Go is more than just a business—it’s a mission. I want to be that gap-filler, providing children with a nurturing, safe environment while also supporting parents who are doing their best to provide for their families. Many parents are hardworking, dedicated, and loving, yet they still need help balancing it all. I understand their struggle, and I want to offer them peace of mind, knowing their children are in trusted hands.
Moreover, I want to inspire other foster children to know that their upbringing does not determine their destiny. I am living proof that despite hardships, success and purpose are possible. No matter where you start, your future is in your hands.
At the heart of it all, my faith in God is my foundation. I truly believe this is not just a career path—it’s my God-given assignment. There have been challenges along the way, but I know that every step of this journey is divinely guided. My experiences, my love for children, and my faith have all led me here—to serve, to nurture, and to empower families.
Nanny On The Go isn’t just about childcare; it’s about creating a lasting impact—one child, one family, and one act of love at a time.

Angela, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Meet Angela Sharmale Hicks: The Heart and Mission Behind Nanny On The Go
My name is Angela Sharmale Hicks and I am a Milwaukee, WI native who has called Memphis, TN home since 2010. I am a woman of faith, purpose, and passion, with a deep love for serving families, supporting children, and making a meaningful impact in the lives of those around me. I believe that every child deserves to feel seen, valued, and nurtured, and I’ve dedicated my life’s work to ensuring that happens.
I’ve always been a quiet yet peaceful storm—someone who moves with intention, leads with love, and remains steadfast in my mission to uplift others. My faith in God is the foundation of my life, and I firmly believe in helping others win, whether through my business, my talents, or simply by being a light in someone’s life.
My Journey Into Childcare
I was introduced to the childcare industry at the age of 15, a time when I was still discovering who I was. What started as a simple opportunity soon turned into a deep love for caring for children. I quickly realized that providing quality childcare was about more than just supervision—it was about fostering security, trust, and emotional well-being for both the child and the parents.
My passion for childcare was also shaped by my own life experiences. Growing up without my biological parents and navigating the foster care system, I knew firsthand what it felt like to experience neglect and rejection. Those feelings fueled my purpose—I never wanted another child to feel unseen or unimportant. That’s why Nanny On The Go is more than just a childcare service; it’s a mission to fill the gap with love, assurance, and support, not just for children, but also for parents who are doing their very best to provide for their families.
At Nanny On The Go, I specialize in offering flexible, high-quality childcare solutions to busy families who need trusted and reliable support. My services include:
– Date Night Support – Giving parents the opportunity to enjoy a well-deserved break while knowing their children are in loving hands.
– Occasional & Short-Term Childcare– Providing reliable care when parents need it most, whether for work, travel, or last-minute emergencies.
-Pediatric Sleep Consulting– Helping parents navigate the challenges of infant sleep with personalized guidance and expert strategies to improve sleep routines.
The Problems I Solve for Families.
Parents today are balancing demanding careers, family responsibilities, and personal well-being—all while trying to provide the best care for their children. I step in to alleviate that stress, offering them peace of mind knowing their children are not just being watched, but truly cared for, nurtured, and supported.
As a Pediatric Sleep Consultant, I also help parents struggling with infant and toddler sleep issues, which can be one of the most exhausting challenges for families. By providing expert guidance, I help establish **healthy sleep habits that benefit both the child and the entire household.
What Sets Me Apart?
What makes me different from other childcare providers is my intentionality and deep focus on a child’s mental and emotional well-being. To me, this is more than babysitting—I take a holistic approach to childcare, ensuring that every child in my care feels heard, supported, and emotionally secure.
I am also highly observant and detail-oriented, which allows me to recognize and respond to the unique needs of each child. Whether it’s identifying behavioral patterns, emotional cues, or sleep struggles, I go beyond the basics to provide personalized, thoughtful care.
Additionally, my work is fueled by purpose. Nanny On The Go was birthed from my own pain and life experiences, and because of that, my mission is deeply personal. We are not here to replace parents—we are here to stand alongside them, offering support, encouragement, and excellence in every aspect of childcare.
I am most proud of my resilience. Despite the challenges I’ve faced in life, I have never allowed my circumstances to define my future. Instead, I’ve used my experiences to fuel my passion and purpose. I also take pride in the families I’ve helped, the children I’ve nurtured, and the difference I continue to make every day.
Where the Nanny Industry Can Improve
One thing I believe the nanny industry can improve on is recognizing the importance of emotional and mental health in childcare. Many people see nannies as just babysitters, but we play a critical role in a child’s development. More emphasis needs to be placed on intentional caregiving, understanding child psychology, and ensuring that children feel emotionally secure—not just entertained.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A Lesson in Knowing My Worth
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was feeling bad about my rates and realizing that not everyone will be my client—and that’s okay.
I remember sitting down with a few wise counselors, and my leaders from church for a meeting to discuss my business and my pricing. Before that, I had already spoken with my dad about it, and all the conversations went the same way. When I told them my rates, their immediate response was, What is that gonna cover??
That moment shook me. It forced me to take a hard look at how I viewed myself and the value I was offering. The truth was, I had been underselling myself because of a poverty mindset—one that made me feel guilty about charging what I was truly worth. I had been so conditioned to think small, to believe that I had to lower my prices just to be accessible to everyone. But in reality, everyone is not my client, and that’s okay.
That conversation was a turning point for me. It made me realize that my time, my expertise, and my purpose have value, and I needed to stand firm in that. It’s not about overcharging—it’s about recognizing the level of care, professionalism, and experience I bring to the table. The moral of the story? Be okay with charging what you charge. Walk in confidence knowing who you are and what you offer. If someone walks away, that just means they weren’t meant to be your client. The right people will see your value and invest accordingly.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
A Story of Resilience: Pushing Past Fear and Uncertainty
Starting Nanny On The Go was not an easy decision for me. In fact, I wrestled with it for a long time because of the uncertainty that comes with stepping into something new. The fear of failure, the doubts about whether I was making the right move, and the overwhelming feeling of “What if this doesn’t work?” all played in my mind.
The first step in launching any new business can be nerve-wracking. I questioned everything—Would people see the value in what I offer? Would I be able to sustain it? Was I really ready? I had to fight through the fear of the unknown, push past the doubt, and remind myself why I started in the first place.
But here I am—still sticking with it, still growing, and absolutely loving it. Every challenge I’ve faced along the way has only made me stronger. There were moments when I wanted to quit, times when things didn’t go as planned, and days when I second-guessed myself. But I’ve learned that **resilience isn’t about never feeling afraid—it’s about pushing forward despite the fear.
Now, when I look back, I’m so glad I didn’t let uncertainty stop me. This journey has stretched me, refined me, and shown me that I am more than capable. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that starting is the hardest part—but once you push past that initial fear, you’ll discover just how strong and capable you truly are.
