Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angela Fedrick-Lewis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Angela thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned an important principal years ago. That principal is “anything worth pursuing is worth learning.” There is worth in the gifts that we all have within us and I believe it is our responsibility to develop those gifts. For me, bridging the gift of connecting with people and writing became a goal that shaped my high school and college studies.
Studying music and mass media arts trained me in communicating more effectively with people and connecting in a way to gather the deeper picture beyond their faces or experiences. This strengthened my ability to tell a person’s story through writing or my own in music. This is where I learned to take life experiences and find the jewels in the good, bad and even ugly. It also reshaped the way I approach life.
Knowing what I know now, I would not want to speed up my learning process. I believe the timing of our life experiences and development goes at the pace that allows us to best grow and receive from them.
Discipline is the most essential skill I developed through learning my craft. It takes discipline to balance motherhood, business and personal development. It takes discipline to complete projects for clients in a timely and professional manner. While wearing many hats as a mom, media creative, artist and educator, it is a must to stay open to learning new and better ways of doing things throughout one’s life span. It takes discipline to stay humble to lifelong learning.
Angela, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a mom, artist, educator and business owner that utilizes media, in all its platforms to inspire, uplift and support others. My company, Mojo Media Online LLC, provides an online magazine and media services, such as graphic design, digital flyers and media promos for entrepreneurs and creatives.
One important thing for clients to know is that my brand is an extension of me. I will always provide service with integrity. I take a personal investment in every client and provide oversight on all projects to ensure a quality experience. Whether managing a creative project, writing or releasing music, my focus is always using media to promote spiritual, personal and professional growth and development.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe my ability to connect with people and provide great customer service is key. You can have amazing talent, but if you do not have people skills, it will overshadow your talents. Building authentic connections is essential within the media field and rude, arrogant attitudes gets you nowhere.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is being naive and allowing empty promises disappoint or discourage me. Instead, I learned to respond to actionable results and not the gift of gab. I recall being young and a talent agent approached my mom and I. We met with a group of industry people who told us everything they would do, including putting me on lunch boxes. I can laugh at it now, but as a young girl, I remember the disappointment in realizing it was all talk.
That lesson re-taught me to ask questions, respond to actions and connect with those that operate in the same vein of integrity and truth.
