We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Angela Delgado a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela, thanks for joining us today. Do you have any thoughts about how to create a more inclusive workplace?
Being a female Latina and minority in the film industry, I am familiar with struggle. It is rare to not only meet other females who are in the same male-dominated industry, but who are also familiar with persevering and encourage collaboration, friendships, and who are all around supportive. I was fortunate, early on, to have a supportive female mentor aside from my professors who fit this vision. She took me under her wing and let me get comfortable knowing how to use her equipment as well as my own. One of many things she said stuck with me: Don’t be afraid to hear the word “no.” Her mentorship has taught me that it is important to build a team of people and circle where you can count on each other. What surprised me even more was the realization that there are people who WANT to support you. And most of all, being introduced to male creators who are supportive and work alongside females. I would say it is extremely important to remain a sense of professionalism even when others are not. Although it can be difficult, I like to call it “kill people with kindness.” :) Unfortunately, the lack of female representation in this industry creates competition and puts sisters against each other. Through my work, I strive to create a positive environment where females will not feel negative pressure when embracing themselves in their workspace. I hope other girls like me can one day feel confident to express their creative and personal needs.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I do videography and photoshoots for music artists, influencers, BTS, documentaries, promos, interviews, TikToks, & PSAs. It is important that I remain professional and be very respectful of everyone in an environment with a lot of excitement and role models, however that has never been a challenge of mine. I have always been drawn to video & arts of any form. My background consists of visual arts, Production & Design education, Mental Health advocacy, Acting, Sewing, Basketball, Community Involvement, Girl Scouts, extensive training in music reading & black belt in Taekwondo. My business in videography first started in the field of concerts. I started posting concert recap videos on my Instagram and was fortunate to receive the love & support from the promoters of these shows. Soon enough, I was able to use my earnings from internships and jobs to purchase the camera and lens that I currently use, Canon 80D. It is important to acknowledge the technical aspects such as angles, shadows, and lighting in order for your client to feel satisfied with the final product. When advertising a product, person or place, I like to focus on telling a story then add details in order to enhance the service being advertised. I would say my audience appeals visually to fun colors and the stories I tell. I am most proud of my ability to interview artists in front and behind the camera because at first interviewing was a struggle. One of my favorite forms of content to post is the behind the scenes of my video process and events I attend.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
In this business, I strive to keep a positive image on and offline with my clients, followers, etc. It is important to know the background of your clients and brands you work for because that brand can be a reflection of you. My goal is to collaborate and network with artists where we can mutually build each other’s brand, audience, and business. Collaboration is key.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
In the past, some friends of mine have had a hard time understanding the rigorous time management and responsibility that I have post production. My job is extremely time sensitive, especially because concerts can lose relevancy overtime. Going to college and working almost every weekend has taught me to manage my time and make social sacrifices in order to come through for my clients.
