We recently connected with Angela Declet and have shared our conversation below.
Angela, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Back in 2020 when many were looking for an alternative of earning an income and/or looking for a new hobby due to Covid-19, I had lost a beloved family member and needed a way to clear my mind in order to grieve. I also took this opportunity to prove to myself that I could achieve anything that I had set my mind to. 19 months later, I am still healing and proving myself that I can accomplish anything.
Many were surprised that I had this hidden talent, and so was I.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am puertorican born and raised. I got my bachelors degree in Social Work and moved to Florida. I never pursued my career as a social worker, instead I have served people with disabilities for a decade. Never knowing I had a hidden talent, I never thought of creating anything with my hands, until I began creating earrings, and that’s when I knew there was something missing all this time. The ability to be able to express myself in these particular craft brings me so much joy to create a unique piece of artwork that people get to wear and enjoy over and over again.
I would like my followers to know that each piece of earrings that I make, I make it out of pure joy! I try to make them as original as possible, not duplicating what other craftworkers are doing. I tend to go by the beat of my own drum.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Always cheer on entrepreneurs! It doesn’t matter if you are interested in making a purchase or not. They need that support of every small word of encouragement, every referral, every “Like & Share”, all of these things matter and is what keeps us moving. You never know the difference you could make to small businesses by just doing these small things.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My only goal is to persevere! I would have never in a million years would’ve thought that I could create something that people would purchase and wear! I never had any aspirations to become a business woman of any kind, so for me just by not giving up, is my drive and purpose!
