We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Angela Benner. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Angela below.
Hi Angela, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To be successful I think it starts with your mindset and your attitude. How much time are you willing to put into your business? It may include setbacks, failures, or moving in a different direction to grow your business and stay relevant. Learn from those situations and don’t let it ruin your focus. It takes patience to work with resin, and I’ve ruined plenty of projects or they didn’t turn out like I’d envisioned in my head. But I keep pushing myself to do better.

Angela, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started my venture in my 50s. My outlook is you can be any age and decide if you want to change directions, or start something new. Age does not limit us-we put limits on ourselves. And if I’m being honest, I got into my craft to be able to satisfy the creative urge and as a stress reliever due to having a super stressful day job. I’ve always been drawn to art in any medium and to be able to provide one-of-a-kind pieces for my customers while using my imagination doesn’t feel like work at all. I design orgonite pieces for the home, and also to be worn.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I’m still building my audience on social media. I grew up in a time where I didn’t have a computer until I was in my 30s so I struggle with building it or staying consistent with posting and engaging my audience. But I know enough to see where the social media trend is taking us and it’s a much-needed platform to be able to reach possible customers on the other side of the world where they can connect with you and your products.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Putting myself out there really helped. I knew I wanted my pieces in a retail setting to help get my name out there. I even knew the shop. So I took some of my pieces and approached the owner to see if she was interested. She was so we decided on a time where we could talk out an agreement on what worked for us. A second business reached out to me after seeing my necklaces in a local holistic magazine. I also tried different types of events where I would be able to connect with potential new clients. I’ve also had friends of clients reach out to me after seeing one of my pieces. You just never know where your next client will be.
