Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angela Beatty. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Angela, thanks for joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
The legacy that I would hope to leave is one that displayed love for family and home. I have endeavored in my adult life to do put God first, family and then everything else. Taking care of my husband, children and home has been by far my greatest accomplishment and joy! I have been a stay at home mom at different times in my life as my children came before a career. I chose to be home with them in their formative years and still never allowed work to take precedence over them. I have turned down great paying jobs and positions because I knew the requirements of those roles would take away too much time from my children. You can always make money, but you can never get back time list with the kiddos. I am grateful and blessed to have had this as an option.
I want my legacy to be one that makes family a priority again and less about how much money to make and spend. I want my children to carry out this legacy of loving people and have a giving heart, helping those in need and being sensitive to others situations. Work hard, love harder and pray often.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a woman of many passions. I sharing via social media things that I love, inspiring ideas or concepts. Cooking and feeding people brings me great joy! I feel like cooking at home has become a past time for many and therefore I share cooking reels and recipes to help out those individuals who want a quick tasty meal.
Interior design and decorating is a business I started because I enjoy helping others make their houses feel like a “home.” Decorating and designing so much fun to me and doesn’t feel like work. I enjoy setting my own hours and taking in as many or little clients as I choose depending on my life’s schedule.
Last but not least, I have a non-profit 501c3 for women called Come Up Higher. My goal is to continue to use my non-profit to assist and help women in need domestically and internationally and I am proud to say we have done both over the years. Whether women are in need of basic necessities, needs for their children or skills training we are their to help!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Sharing authentically and consistently is key. Your business or organization should be a direct reflection of who you are as a business owner. Connecting with other businesses on social media, that you respect their business practices and connecting with groups that you can grow from is also very important. Being active on other businesses social media pages is also important, genuinely, of course. I share some personal family moments as well as business experiences and community events. I have a separate social media page for my nonprofit and interior design business. In reality, I am targeting three different audiences through my social media. Life inspirations by Angela is my primary social media page on Instagram and Facebook. it’s very important to know who your target audience is. For instance, if your business is food related, then you should be targeting groups, people, and organizations that promote and share food, cookware and seasonings for example. Creating reels has been one of the greatest ways to grow my social media audience.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
My side hustle was interior design and decorating. I often had friends and acquaintances of friends, asking for my advice on how to decorate their homes offices or just sending me color schemes to help them select what would look best and I did it happily without pay, because it just didn’t seem like something I should charge them for. It was fun for me and I just wanted to help them. I was speaking with a friend one day, and they encouraged me to create a business from this. I had never thought about it until that moment. I spent so much time looking at home decor, and creating decor ideas just for the fun of it and the thought of making a few dollars from something that I loved didn’t sound like a bad idea. Several years ago, I started my business with me being the only employee. I have loved every moment of it especially that I am able to choose my hours and clientele load. Currently, I hold a full-time position with my daughters school as she requested I be with her at school. Honestly, I never seen myself working at a school but because she is the baby and she requested I be there I’m there. Like I stated before my children are way more important than any other job or organization, that I work for or own myself. I still do interior design and decorating but it comes in waves as my children’s schedules change. I have two sons a 24 year old and a 23 year old. They both play college basketball and one just graduated this year with his masters degree so he is now finished with college. My other son will be starting his last year this fall. Although they are older, they still require time and availability from me. I love what I do but I work around the kiddos.
