We were lucky to catch up with Angela Aguilar recently and have shared our conversation below.
Angela , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
My personal important lesson was “Don’t work for family or friends.” Things can get weird really quickly. Relationships can be ruined and it can affect other family members as well. It just isn’t worth it in the long run. I won’t go into all of the bad things that happened. I will say that I can see where I am to blame in how things played out for not having boundaries and speaking up for myself. I have since learned boundaries and I would never allow myself to be treated the same way today as I did back then. But everything that happens in our lives happens for a reason and is there to teach us a lesson if we will let it. I work for myself these days and I treat myself pretty great! Yay me!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
One day I realized I was really tired of how dysfunctional my life and relationships had become. I wanted to heal my past traumas and not allow them to rule my life daily. I believed that true healing was out there, I just had to find it.
If you knew me before I began my journey, my life looked pretty great and it was in many respects. I was funny, I had lots of friends, I was well travelled and financially secure and so many other great things. But inside, I was not happy. I allowed others to rule me with their words and actions all in the hopes that they would like me and I would not rock the boat. I went places I did not want to go, hung out with people that I did not exactly love being around and spent money on things I thought would make me feel better. They did for a while but when the shininess wore off, there I was in my unhappiness with a nice car or purse or trip, unhappy again.
So I started working on myself. For years, I tried every technique, worked with every healer I trusted, took every class, read every book that I could get my hands on to try to heal my past traumas. I found a few things that really started me on my healing path. As I continued to work on myself, I started finding moments of joy in my life. I won’t say it was the easiest thing in the world but I will say that it was the most game changing thing in my life and I would do it a million times over if you told me it would land me where I am today emotionally and spiritually. A millions times over!!!
I started Safe Space Healing because I wanted others to know that change is possible. I think most people just go about their day thinking, I was born, my family raised me and I am older and my life sucks but that is just how life is right? Wrong, you can work to reprogram your thinking and your life to be what you would choose if you could choose a different life out of a catalog. It takes lots of work but it can be done. I wanted people to know that true change is possible if you really want it.
I try to help people release all of the stories they carry through their lives that hold them both back and down so that they can start to live a life of joy and peace.
EFT Tapping really helped me go into all of the sad or angry stories from my childhood and blow them up. I found that I and so many others had something happen to us at a certain moment in time that was overwhelming, where we did not feel supported and we logged that feeling in our memory banks. Any time we feel overwhelmed or threatened, we go back to that memory bank folder. we become the child that it happened to and we have that story memorized as an adult. If you work with someone like myself who is clinically trained in EFT, we go back into that story as a supported adult and expose our little child beliefs to the light of day as a grown adult. If we do this right, we break down barriers and change perspectives and those stories can’t hold you back like they did before. True healing is just that….changing your perspective on the stories that have been keeping you down.
That is why I do what I do and why I started Safe Space Healing. To help others feel better and do better. Hopefully this starts a chain reaction in someone’s life and they pay it forward and little by little we raise the global consciousness of ourselves and others.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I have a few books that in my opinion were game changers for me. Not so much from a “how to succeed at business” standpoint but from a “how to understand and navigate life in a kinder and gentler way for myself and others.
Loving What Is by Byron Katie was one of the most freeing books for me in my life. Our lives are filled with stories about how others should act, and be and do and it causes us so much pain when they don’t act in the way they expect them to. This book can help free you from seeing life that way if you will let it. I recommend it to everyone who walks through my door.
The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle helped free me from fear. In the past when something bad happened, either to ourselves or others, we put it in a folder. It waits there and when anything closely resembling it happens in our lives, we become afraid because of how it turned out back then and how it may turn out now and affect our future. If you stay in the now, everything in this very minute is ok. It’s the story we tell ourselves when we head into the stories of the past of future that scare us.
The Power of Intention by Wayne Dyer is a great book as well. He brings daily life together with the power of God, Spirit or Universe and explains how it all works together to create a fantastic life journey. It’s a must read for those open and seeking and a keeper in my opinion.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think my past life experiences that led me to want to change my dysfunctional life help me understand where everyone who walks through my door has been. My goal is to allow them to tell their truths in an environment where if I do it right, they feel heard, seen and not judged. Most of my clients are by word of mouth. I am not on social media or any other platforms. I don’t listen to the news or read the newspaper (little trick I learned in my 20’s by reading a book by Dr Andrew Weil called “8 Weeks to Optimum Health) and I have been avoiding the news for over 30 years. I don’t attend any festivals or set up shop to do any kind of marketing. Just a website and word of mouth. Clientele continues to grow over these past 5 years so maybe I am doing something right. I really hope I am.
