We recently connected with Angel Theodore and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Angel, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Growing up, I had low self-esteem because I didn’t meet the media’s standard of beauty. The sad thing is I’m not the only one. Research by the Dove Campaign found that 92% of teen girls want to change something about their body. Other research found that 1 in 4 girls have been diagnosed with depression, eating disorders and cutting because of the immense pressure they feel. Thankfully, God took me on a healing journey, and now I’m confident in my own skin. My goal is to help women and girls develop that same confidence and step into their own standard of beauty.
Angel, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always been drawn to the entrepreneurship lifestyle even when I went to conferences in college. I would always choose the business tracts. There’s something about that was very attractive to me. Even growing up in the church, I learned about the Proverbs 31 Woman and I wanted to emulate her. She had a business, was into real estate, and had a thriving life to take care of her family. I’m also into psychology/personality tests. One of them is the Enneagram test. It focuses on the head heart and soul and my numbers are three wing two.
That means I’m an achiever in a servant. I believe my natural passions and the Enneagram are how Soul Image 365 was born. I want to succeed in business and help women and girls of the next Generation learn how to feel comfortable in their skin.
On a lighter note, I am married and have two dogs (my husband and I are living that millennial lifestyle). The hobbies I enjoy are dancing and eating with my friends.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
At the beginning of Soul Image 365, I struggled with creating boundaries around my ideas for coaching and empowering women. I would tell everyone I came across my goals and dreams. People told me it wasn’t practical so I put it on hold. Even though I continued to work on it, I only devoted a small fraction of my time to it. I knew I wanted to do something, but I lacked the necessary tools. That all changed in 2019 when I stumbled upon certified life coaches who had turned their passion into a career. In 2020 I did the same thing. Through this, I’ve learned to treat my business ideas like a baby. If I had a baby I wouldn’t let just anyone hold them, instead, it would be people who I trust and who know how to take care of them. Same with my business it would be people who know how to support and cultivate a business idea. Though I had some critics at the beginning, I did not give up.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lot of lessons I had to unlearn had to do with mindset. One of them was that you should offer your services for free and to volunteer. Over time I began to learn that it is okay to charge people for my services and to take value in that. Growing up in the church I learned a lot about ministry, giving, and volunteerism. Though it’s okay to do that in some contexts, we shouldn’t downplay the gifts and abilities that God has given us. There are many instances in the bible where Jesus talks about investing and business. There are ways to responsibly use money and still be Christian.
