We were lucky to catch up with Angel Strittmater recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Angel thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Growing up I always appreciated dance, however I never anticipated that it would be my career until later I was applying for colleges. I was looking into school with dance majors, yet I also had an interest in healthcare and nursing. Both my parents work in healthcare and had always preached about having a financially stable career. I ended up getting accepted into every nursing school I applied for except one, yet I was still accepted into that university for a general major. I took the risk and committed to that university, which ended up being the university of Minnesota, and chose a major in physiology. After one miserable semester, I realized how important dance was to me and changed my major to dance! Along with this decision I was able to participate in the university of Minnesota dance team, which allowed me to perform in the NCAA March madness concert series with the Jonas brothers. This solidified my enthusiasm for a career in the arts and made me realize how much I enjoyed ring a backup dancer!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a 25 year old dancer, choreographer and creative based in Los Angeles! Initially from Prior Lake, MN I began my dance career as a competitive dancer at a local studio. From there I went on to dance on the University of Minnesota Dance Team and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Dance. I moved to Los Angeles in 2021 and signed with Bloc talent agency after 3 months. Some of my favorite jobs have been dancing for David Archuleta, dancing at Disney’s D23 fan event, performing at LA fashion week and dancing for Sabrina Salerno and Precious Wilson. Currently I am a part of Erica Klein’s “Klein Collective” as well as Hannah Gallagher’s “HMG Company.”
As a choreographer I aspire to create innovative, athletic and character driven movement. I have been choreographing since I was 18 and draw a lot of inspiration from my interactions with others. My style is ever changing as I learn and develop myself as an artist, yet these core values always remain.
Along with being a dancer and choreographer, I am also a dance teacher! I am grateful to teach classes at millennium dance complex Los Angeles as well as other studios around the city. I specialize in jazz, jazz technique and contemporary and strive to create a welcoming and motivational environment. I love dance education because it allows me share my knowledge with my students, as well as have a better understanding of how others learn and what I can do to better assist my dancers.
Within all components of my work I aim to be in a constant state of development. Dance is ever changing and my favorite part about this craft is I can always learn something new!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I actually fell into social media by accident! I enjoy creating silly tik toks as another creative outlet, and one time while I was visiting home I felt especially creative and used some old props from my competitive dance days. Suddenly the video blew up and I began creating more tik toks! For anyone who is new to building social media I would say don’t be afraid to post! It may seem odd at first but the more you practice creating the better you become. As a result you are able to develop your own creative voice and realize what works best for you!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the ability to bring art to others! Seeing how dance, music and acting can bring communities together is a rue reminder of how essential art is for our souls. The fact that crowds of people can be emotionally moved by a performance is so powerful!
