We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Angel Princess a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Angel, thanks for joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Yes. I am 100% happy being an actress. I never wonder what it would be like to work for someone else, because I’ve had many bosses before and I don’t like them! My first job was when I was 14 years old working as a cashier at McDonald’s. From there on out, I have always been hard-working and kept some type of job to make ends meet. Since my parents divorced when I was a teenager, I never had that advantage of a father providing for his family. Even as a creative, I continuously keep pursuing and pushing towards my goals. I started dancing when I was 4 years old and I think that was pretty much the start of my creative journey throughout life. Acting came later in my adult years because I was really shy as a kid, but I wouldn’t change my career for anything else in the world. I may not yet be where I desire financially but I know the hard work will eventually pay off. It goes in waves like the ocean. Some days the tides are high, other days the tides are low. I just take it as it comes.
I’m super happy that I am living my passion and I have decided to chase after my dreams! My future goal is to one day open my own production company and just keep creating films to share with the world. I have just completed writing my short script based on my love story and I am currently in the process of editing it. Once I finish with the shoot, I will focus on festivals and then start on my feature film. I’ve already been an associate producer on two low budget indie projects so I’m excited that I’m finally working on my own projects now…
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well, I’m a very outgoing fun free-spirited individual who loves to laugh. I first got into the industry because I wanted to be an actress. I had gone to college to become a pediatrician but decided I no longer wanted to pursue that career. I moved out to Hollywood when I was 18 with my mom and two brothers to focus on an acting career instead. It was tough in the beginning since we didn’t know anybody but once we all started working on set as extras we gained more knowledge about the business. We continued networking and learning the ropes and in 2007, my mother opened her own casting agency. That helped me to understand the business side of the entertainment industry and not just the glamorous side of it on camera. I worked as an assistant casting director for my mom. I’m most proud of joining the Screen Actors Guild in 2006 soon after I had received my three vouchers. I took a break from the industry for awhile to focus on some personal things but I recently got back into it. I currently have a movie streaming on Prime and Tubi in which I produced and starred in as a supporting actress. It’s called The Paradise Motel. I want to continue making films and sharing my art with the universe. The problem with working on other people’s projects is that you don’t have any creative control. I have a super creative mind and a lot of potential, so I decided to write my own scripts and I’m ready to produce and star in them as well. The main thing that I want my followers to know about my work is that all of my projects will be inspired by my own personal real life stories. I have a very unique life so I want to share it with everyone little by little.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an actress is the connection I have with my fans. I receive so many messages from people around the world that I’ve never met before who follow me on social media and keep up with my posts/stories. I literally build friendships with some of my fans. It motivates me to continue creating because I know my fans support me. I have always been a people person and I have a warm vibe that can make a total stranger feel loved. This is who I am. I have a lot of love in my heart to give. I know I was born to create because I honestly cannot imagine myself doing anything else in the world. And it’s amazing that we have social media in today’s society so us creatives are able to reach out to our fans and communicate with them.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Honestly, I don’t quite remember how I built my fan base on social media. I do have a business degree so I learned alot about marketing and how beneficial it is to network when it comes to my career. Many creatives have talent, but they don’t quite know how to market themselves. I keep my social platforms updated frequently and I think that’s important, especially if your fans are keeping up with you daily. They look forward to seeing what you’re up to. I will post stories about my normal day to day routine and they’ll message me and say how much they enjoy my personality and how they can relate to some of my experiences in life. A lot of times us creatives only show one side of us, but with social media it’s nice to show the true character of who we are in reality. It makes the fans fall in love with you more. I’ve always been taught to remain humble and hardworking. I think a fan base builds naturally based upon how frequently a creative individual is networking. Anywhere I go, I make sure to connect with people and tell them to follow me on Instagram or what not. The more you show support towards other industry professionals, the more it will come back to you. Like a cycle of karma.. what goes around comes around so you gotta play your cards right!
