Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angel Neal. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Angel thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear a story from back when you were an intern or apprentice. What’s a memorable story you can share with us?
Internships are so important. What I learned that has stuck with me is to keep up with connections because they may be helpful later! Always stay in contact with people. One of my favorite internships turned employment was at Cosmopolitan Magazine the Latina edition. Even as a intern I was giving an opportunity to lead, organize the fashion closet, assist the lead stylist on editorial shoots for the publication. That opportunity in itself really helped inspire me to do my best work and strive to make a difference. I wouldn’t be the editor or the boss I am now if I didn’t learn the power of meeting deadlines and learning from mistakes. So between Cosmopolitan and Thomas Faison, I can confidently say these internships have given me both the soft and hard skills to go far in my next challenge.
Angel, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My colleagues in the fashion industry know me as Angel The Stylist. My college degrees are in journalism and photography. After graduating Florida A& M University I took my talents to NYC and received my Masters degree from LIM College in fashion management. I’m the Founder and Creative Director of Disrupshion Magazine, Disrupshion Next Gen Magazine, Shop Disrupshion and I recently just launched Disrupshion Amour Studios in Tampa, Florida. Disrupshion serves as a platform for the shapeshifters in fashion, beauty and entertainment to utilize to inspire and disrupt the fashion industry their way. Disrupshion is a print and digital publication that ships globally and it’s continuing to grow and exceed my expectations. I’m most proud of this year completing one of my goals by releasing my first coffee table book “Disrupshion Editorials: The Faces of Fashion Through Our Lens,” available on DisrupshionMag.com & Blurb Bookstore. Providing a platform that offers representation in fashion and publishing for people that look like me. I’m really good at being the hardest person working in the room and I surround myself around other bosses. So I’m just here to be able to inspire others and continue to grow my brand and platform.
How did you build your audience on social media?
We live in a world now where everyone is trying to find their people. The people they relate to that think the way they think and want to inspire like you do. For my brand I value building my social media and following authentically. I want people to follow my brand because they believe in it and they can relate to it. So the best advice I could give to someone navigating the tricky works of social media is make brand identity a priority and remain consistent.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Honestly, the publication speaks for itself. People are beginning to understand the power and the role a print publication still plays in fashion and media. Being able to provide a platform for creators to share their work, for entrepreneurs to share their story and ect… has helped build up the magazines reputation. Our supporters and clients they can not only visually see the connection our publication brings but it’s something that can keep as a keepsake, a forever proud moment for them in their own career journey. Overall I would say being a leader whose word is bond has pushed my brand to come up in rooms I’ve have never even entered.
