Angel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success in the salon world requires a deep commitment to both clients and stylist. For clients, it means deliverIng exceptional service, personalized care, and consistently high-quality results that builds trust and loyalty. For stylist, it involves fostering a supportive and inspiring environment where creativity thrives, offering mentorship, ongoing education, and promoting growth to ensure they feel valued and motivated. Ultimately, it’s about balancing client satisfaction with stylist empowerment , creating a harmonious and thriving salon culture.
Angel, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Let me introduce Angel Mackey, a passionate and talented professional from San Antonio, Texas. Angel is a wife, mother, author, salon owner & a master stylist with nearly three decades of experience in the hair industry. She finds her greatest pride when her team is thriving and her family is happy, with family being her top priority, second only to her relationship with God. She attributes her success to keeping God first in her life and is a strong advocate for work-life-balance. What Angel truly wants her clients to know is her deep love for encouraging, inspiring, and motivating others to be the best versions of themselves. She believes that everyone is unique, and this is reflected in her hair artistry, where she uses her creativity to bring out the individuality of each client. Always focused on quality, Angel uses only professional brand products to ensure her clients receive the best results.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
There is so much to my story but to be very brief. I have been on top and I have also been to the bottom before, I’ve lost my entire business including all my staff. This was very devastating to me and I thought I would never recover or even have the desire to open a business again. I was at the height of my career so I thought. Due to having a business partner that didn’t have the same values it was inevitable that things would fall apart. Now that was over 17 years ago and now I’m just getting started in a new state with not only 1 Salon but now 2 locations I know that if I can bounce back anyone can! We can only learn from our failures so even when it looks like it’s over keep looking ahead and know that God always has a plan for you life even in the midst or chaos. I’m a living witness don’t ever give up!!
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Angel Mackey has taken a bold and inspiring approach to building her salon. She used her personal savings , pulled out 401(k) and even relied on credit cards to fund her dream. Despite the challenges, she has no regrets about using her own capital to get started. Angel believes that sometimes you have to bet on yourself and begin with what you have, even when you don’t qualify for loans or upfront capital. Her story is a testament to believing in your dream and starting wherever you are.
