Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angel Jordan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Angel thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
Benefits of Asking Friends/Family to support your business:
Emotional support: Friends and family are more likely to show emotional support for the business owner. They may be more understanding and empathetic toward the challenges and struggles associated with starting a new business.
Access to networks: Friends and family often have a wide network of contacts that could potentially benefit the business. They may be able to provide valuable connections or introduce the owner to potential customers, investors, or industry experts.
Overall, friends and family can be a source of emotional support, access to networks, and building an initial customer base, which can be extremely beneficial for a business owner.

Angel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, I’m Angel Jordan also known as Angelica, I am an all-around creative from Art Director to Creative Director to Graphic Designer. I have been working within the creative industry since I was 14, learning the ins and outs of the Adobe Creative Suite. I attended McKinley Technology High School, a STEM school, known for its prestigious Digital Media program. In my Digital Media courses, I learned several programs in Adobe Creative Suite such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Animate. After graduating from High School, I wanted to be able to leave with a skill that I didn’t have before attending McKinley Technology High School, therefore, I transferred the skill learned in Adobe Creative Suites and I used my skills to my advantage. I n 2019, I created my own business as a Freelance Graphic Designer under AngelicGraphics LLC. Where my vision is to provide services to those in need of marketing and branding for their businesses. I had the opportunity to design for several small and large businesses with innovative graphic designs, creative concepts, and artwork. I’ve also been grateful enough to have mentees under AngelicGraphics LLC, where they learn from my expertise and develop their own businesses to provide services to those in need as well.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When I started AngelicGraphics LLC, I was a freshman in college at Delaware State University, where everyone who attended the school made it feel family-orientated. My first couple of followers came strictly from the individuals around me from friends to family. I didn’t think my following would grow so fast but after creating designs for businesses on my HBCU campus, my following grew tremendously. I remember the moment I realized that my business needed more structure because I was attracting a bigger following. It was solely my work speaking for itself but also, friends and family being the push that I needed to be where I am today. Over the course of 3 years, my following has grown to 3,820 followers.
The one piece of advice I would love to leave with any creative or anyone looking to build their following on their business page is to create a strategy and create content for your audience. There should be a sequence to what you post and how you post it. Don’t start your page over but continue evolving over the course of time. Learn more about your social media and audience impressions from your everyday post to see what works for you and what’s beneficial to your brand on social platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think what helped me, Angel Jordan, build a reputation was my presence and how I showed up in the space of being creative on platforms that needed it. Another thing that was beneficial in the long run was my network of amazing graphic designer, although we didn’t know each other, our skills as a collective spoke value to one another which made it easier to connect on the level in which we did and build our reputation as freelance graphic designers.
