We recently connected with Angel Jenkins and have shared our conversation below.
Angel , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I started my salon suite this year after years of working in salons and with salon owners and I can’t help but to think I should have started sooner.
During the Covid pandemic, salons shut down and when they reopened they had new rules on how they operate on top of clients being apprehensive to coming in to a salon and being around groups of people that they didn’t know. I think a salon suite would have been a perfect place for clients to be more comfortable.
Angel , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got in to the industry from my husband, believe it or not. I had a string of bad luck with jobs and I had been doing hair for fun since I was young and my husband suggested that I look in to getting my cosmetology license and work with hair. The rest is history. I specialize in extensions, curly hair, and color services.
I am most proud of just where I am today with all of the ups and downs and sweat and tears it took to get here. What sets me apart is a mix of my passion, my determination, and my dedication to my clients. A recent accomplishment is that I have become a certified educator for the brand Davines and I am super excited to see where that’s me!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my social media by posting a lot, seeing the analytics on what people engage with and adjusting content to what people want to see and will engage with. Another key for successful social media is interacting with other people, both other creators and other users that come to my page. I now have a few thousand followers and a living portfolio that shows my work.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Honestly, my relationships with my clients and a strong local social media presence has helped build, maintain, and stand out in the industry. Many people sacrifice one for the other but you need both to stand out and keep your brand alive.
