We were lucky to catch up with Angel Isaac recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Angel, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The mission behind my work and what I do is the phrase “Human nature made tangible” I took that line from this movie Kodachrome. Photography is incredibly unique as an art form, to many it may seem like nothing but pushing a button. But pushing that button is magical, you’re able to stop time and capture a moment forever, time may go on but it will never be exactly like it was in that one second ever again….human nature made tangible.
Music is also such a unique art form, it’s sound….yea there’s music videos and music media….but it is the art of sound and as a concert photographer I get the chance to capture the life behind that sound…the emotion put into the art of music
Angel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello! My name is Angel also known as “Pollo” here and there. I got into photography purely by accident, tried it without the intention of becoming a concert photographer and absolutely fell in love with it.
I used to work in an office for a the grants department of a city and we happened to have a department camera. I originally wanted to take pictures of the dogs that were found and captured in order to post to the city’s Instagram. It was a relatively small city so whenever a dog got lost people would usually check the city’s Instagram to see if they were possibly found. Eventually though I started taking pictures I thought looked cool. One day I decided to take pictures of a friend of mine who was performing at a small local show in downtown El Paso. Turns out I wasn’t too bad at that, so I kept finding local shows. I was meeting so many new people and eventually I started learning and getting better. In January of 2022, a local venue called “Lowbrow Palace” was having a Battle of the Bands competition for local acts. I just messaged them on Instagram and asked if I could photograph the competition and everything took off!
What I am most proud of is finally being able to express myself through an art form and the fact that this art form has allowed me to meet so many people and meet some of my closest friends!
Photography has been incredibly rewarding also. I have gotten to meet so many musicians I look up to, I have had my work published online and in print, I have seen my pictures on a bunch of Spotify’s, and using photography I have been able to put together my own shows as an event organizer working with both local and touring artists.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want to be apart of music history as corny as it sounds. I want to capture music history. Capture the raw energy of an era in music.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Seeing the world in a new light. Although concert photography the main form of photography I do, it isn’t the only one. I love just capturing pictures of my friends, family, memories, and anything else I find interesting with my point and shoot film camera. Doing this has forced me to appreciate all the emotions in life and search for the beauty in the happy and sad moments.
