We recently connected with Angel Holmes and have shared our conversation below.
Angel, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success begins with your personal definition – it could be daily happiness, entrepreneurship, financial goals, or something entirely different. Once you’ve clearly defined what success means to you, focus intensely on making it happen through these key steps:
1. Create a detailed plan that breaks down your path to success
2. Take consistent, intentional action every day toward your goals
3. Maintain resilience through both successes and setbacks
4. Stay committed to your vision while being flexible about how to achieve it
Remember, since success looks different for everyone, the most important thing is staying true to your personal definition and working steadily toward it with determination and purpose.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Angel Holmes is a Charleston-based community builder and experience architect who transforms ambitious women’s dreams into reality. With a distinguished background in large-scale event production—including leadership roles at the Charleston Wine + Food Festival and BevCon—she has demonstrated exceptional talent in creating transformative experiences that drive both economic impact and meaningful connections.
At the Charleston Wine + Food Festival, Angel helped grow the event to over 20,000 attendees, establishing it as a global culinary benchmark. She also pioneered BevCon in both Charleston and Los Angeles, connecting top beverage professionals through innovative conference experiences. Her ability to tackle unprecedented logistical challenges was showcased in producing the first-ever public event at the Historic Fort Sumter National Park Service site.
Today, Angel channels this expertise into empowering ambitious women through multiple platforms. She launched The Brighter Side Society in 2025, an online community designed to provide women with the tools and support needed to achieve their biggest goals. She leads Like Minded CHS, an in-person community for female founders in Charleston, and offers 1:1 mentorship to help women transform overwhelm into organized success. Her unique approach combines strategic vision with genuine relationship building, creating environments where ambitious women can thrive and realize their full potential.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Let me share my journey with you. When COVID hit, I lost my entire six-figure PR and events business in the food and beverage industry literally overnight. Everything just stopped. But I knew I had to act fast, so I pivoted into selling activewear and beauty products online. Looking back, it was a smart move since everyone was suddenly working from home and doing all their shopping on their computers.
I found myself getting excited about different opportunities, and before I knew it, I was running seven different businesses and projects simultaneously. But here’s the thing – I realized I was spreading myself too thin. You can’t be excellent at everything, right? I needed to focus on that “one thing” I was truly great at.
I spent a lot of time in prayer, really reflecting on my next steps. And it became clear to me – after 29 years in business, my real passion and strength lay in mentoring and connecting with others. Now I’m building communities and helping other ambitious women navigate their own entrepreneurial journeys. Sometimes it takes a crisis to help you find your true calling.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Building a thriving client base comes down to authentic human connections. My strongest client relationships have all grown organically – through thoughtful referrals, genuine word-of-mouth recommendations, and meaningful networking. But here’s what makes the real difference: when I connect with potential clients, I focus entirely on understanding and supporting their goals, with zero expectation of immediate return.
This approach means taking time to really listen to their challenges, sharing relevant insights from my experience, and sometimes even making valuable introductions – all before they become clients. It’s about demonstrating genuine care for their success rather than just pursuing a transaction.
The magic happens when people experience this authentic support. They naturally want to share their positive experience with others, creating a ripple effect of trusted referrals. This organic growth through relationships has proven far more valuable than any traditional marketing strategy I’ve tried.
What I’ve learned is that genuine relationship building isn’t just about growing your business – it’s about creating a network of people who trust you because they’ve experienced firsthand how much you truly care about their success.
