We were lucky to catch up with Anetra Watkins recently and have shared our conversation below.

Anetra, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

NoShade is mission driven by spreading positivity and inspiration. The mission behind our purpose is to acknowledge that we all play a major role in making this world a better place. Our brand was originated out of love, determination and a crucial time when opening a business looked impossible. We are here to remind others daily of the possibilities that lie within them if they simply dig deep. Whether that’s through a hug, a pair of amazing sunglasses, giving to those in need and more. Being a blessing to anyone we interact with is important to us because it’s what God called us to do. We genuinely care about our customers, partners and anyone who God blesses us to spread his word to. We are a Christian based company and God is the epitome of love.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I got into my industry by simply having a desire for frames. The greatest human act is to inspire, that part came natural. The problems we solve for our customers is by providing unique quality products at an affordable price. You get your bang for your buck! What set NoShade apart is the style of frames. Our eyewear is special, we have an anointing that no other brand will ever carry. We’re proud of the the growth and expansion of the brand. We really started from the bottom and now we’re here. Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

To be 100% honest I did not put together a capital. There’s pro’s and con’s to this logic. However, I will say if God gave you the idea he will provide the provision to fulfill it. That is an overall life lesson. I started with an idea and didn’t allow external sources deter me from the fire ignited in my soul to help others. God will align the customers, partners and sales to get you to your next level. Never let capital discourage you from getting started.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

I honestly wish there was one particular story that could articulate resilience within the journey. Life is a journey and there will always be up’s and down’s. At 9 years old I lost my dad and my mom was severely impacted by his loss. Therefore, she was in and out of me and my sisters lives. The cards that were dealt to me I had no control over. I questioned God because I didn’t understand at first then I found a way to not makes excuses for my life. You can either make excuses or pick yourself up and keep going. The decision is yours.
