We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anel Anaya. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anel below.
Alright, Anel thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Dia De Los Muertos. It’s been elleven years since my lovely Mother GRACIELA took her last 3 breaths in my mouth, and rolled her eyes all the way to never see the light on earth and put me as her makeup artist after her passing for the last goodbye. She always told me I had a gift and that one day she was going to need it, and I was going to understand. To me, every day is dia de los muertos every day people die, and they put me as their last wishes and what better way for your love ones to remember you looking beautiful and not like the walking dead.. I do make-up to the soul and all in loving memory of my Beautiful Mother R.I.P.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started the make-up industry when I won a scholarship at Ruby’s Makeup Academy In California, after me saying that if I was to win the scholarship I would use it to do make-up to the disease body’s. They loved that I didn’t say for celebrities, bridal,or quinceañera. I remember seeing dead people looking very scary, and I would say to myself I know I can do better than that. So that day came, and I did my mother’s makeup and made her look like sleeping beauty. Using regular makeup, just not the normal eyelash glue had to use crazyglue for her eyelashes. I’ve never had a problem or a family member complained about the finish look. What sets me apart from others is that I’m not afraid of doing makeup for the last goodbye. I can really say and have witnessed it all the time after doing the make-up to a deceased body they come to me in my dream smile and turn away that’s when I know I did a Phenomenal work and very proud.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I’ve been trying to achieve my creative goal of a mini parade of Dia De Los Muertos. But I need sponsors to support me . I have a dream, and I want to make it happen. Giving our loved ones who have passed away a moment of showing them that they are remembered. And not forgotten.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Witnessing my own growth as a passionate, creative artistic artist of Dia De Los Muertos.
