Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anece Rochell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Anece, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?

It all started as a mission to bring more diversity to children’s books. My son has a deep dark skin tone, and I couldn’t find characters in books that looked like him, so I decided to write and publish books that uplift, affirm, and inspire children of all colors. It’s imperative for all children to see positive images that reflect self, it encourages children to mirror what they see and develops and positive self-image. In 2016 I published my first children’s book (from my Beautiful Me Book Series), entitled, Beautiful Me, which promotes self-love and builds confidence. It is my goal to continue writing literature that inspires and positively impacts our youth.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?

My name is Anece Rochell, and I was born and raised in Cleveland, OH. I am a graduate of the Cleveland Public School System. Two months after graduating from high school, I graduated from nursing school. My passion for children started early, I became a pediatric nurse at the age of eighteen. Even though nursing has been a rewarding career, writing has always been my first love. I wrote my first song at the age of eight, songs evolved into poems, and poems into books. As I grew older and became a mom, my love for writing kept calling me, and once I noticed the lack of diversity in children’s books it was a great reason to start writing again. There is purpose in my pen.

I am the author of The Beautiful Me Children’s Book Series. The titles are Beautiful Me, King, Me, Spread Love, Dipped in Chocolate, and Juneteenth. My debut novel, The Indigent: Book of Aniyas well be released November 2022. I also added Puzzles and Memory Match Card Games to the brand this year. I am the founder of Beautiful Minds Publishing and I am looking to expand my reach by publishing amazing books for others. With Beautiful Minds Publishing, our authors will have the best illustrators and editors in the industry.

I’m most proud of creating products that make children feel great about themselves. Self-love is so important and I want the messages in my books to reach children all over the world. It’s my hope that my vision and passion is felt in the souls of parents, and they spread the word about my books, products, and services.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?

What most people might not know is, I started my publishing company and produced my books with hard earned cash, working as a nurse. I didn’t receive a loan. I was willing to put everything I saved into my purpose of spreading diversity and uplifting positive messages to our youth, via books.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

My driving force again is the goal of spreading diversity and message of self-love to children all over the world. When you truly feel good about yourself, you can go out in this world and accomplish anything. I want children to grow up with this feeling.
