We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Andy Wyss. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Andy below.
Hi Andy, thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
When I first moved to the US from Switzerland, my English wasn’t quite as smooth as it is today. At a Miami wedding, someone suggested a trip activity. I, in my enthusiasm, blurted “Great, super!” sparking a running joke.
Fast forward a few years, when I launched my own marketing consultancy. “GREAT SUPER” just felt right. It was unique, memorable, and captured the positive energy I bring to my work. It’s a name that reflects what I do: I help brands grow through strategic marketing. Pushing your brand to greatness, and taking it to the next level!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My life has been a journey across continents. Born and raised in Bogotá, my school and university years in Zürich instilled a sense of precision and planning. NYC then became my creative playground, where I honed my marketing skills with iconic fashion brands like Diane von Furstenberg, and at a global advertising firm with fragrance accounts such as Balenciaga and Taylor Swift. The city’s fast-paced environment forged me into a master storyteller and strategic marketer, adept at finding commonalities between diverse audiences.
The West Coast called, and I landed in LA, building a marketing department for a European lifestyle brand. This role honed my leadership skills, managing teams and stakeholders across continents. It also leveraged my international network and immersed me in diverse cultures, a constant wellspring of inspiration.
Today, with GREAT SUPER, I leverage my experience to empower entrepreneurs, founders, and small businesses. I work with a diverse clientele, including brands such as Unilever, Leland Brooklyn, Lingua Jewelry, and Rooftop Cinema Club, to mention a few. I see myself as both a sparring partner and a growth catalyst, helping you maintain focus on your strategy amidst the daily grind or define a winning strategy with the right tactics. You can think of me as your outside marketing expert. I’m here to challenge your assumptions and draw out your best moves.
My superpower? Observation and honesty. I quickly assess your situation with an initial VC and deliver straightforward feedback. This honest perspective can make the difference between a solid strategy and a scattered approach.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Two books have significantly impacted my thinking and approach:
No Rules Rules: Netflix and the Culture of Reinvention by Reed Hastings. This book’s emphasis on transparency and empowering teams resonates deeply. It reminds me of the importance of keeping everyone informed to foster confidence and ownership.
Manifest: 7 Steps to Living Your Best Life by Roxie Nafousi. While not strictly a business book, its message of perseverance and aligning with your goals inspires me. It’s a powerful reminder that success in any discipline takes consistent effort and a positive mindset.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Just like a sparring partner challenges an entrepreneur, encourage respectful debate and challenging assumptions within your team. This sharpens ideas and leads to stronger solutions.
Focus on strategy, not tactics. Help your team see the bigger picture. Sometimes getting bogged down in the everyday can be detrimental to a hyper growth mindset.
Invest in personal branding. Own your voice. It’s the key to building a genuine reputation. Your brand will always be a reflection of you.
