We were lucky to catch up with Andy Vald recently and have shared our conversation below.
Andy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
The biggest risk I’ve ever taken was migrating and starting a business far from my homeland. I’m originally from Ecuador, and in 2016, I decided to migrate due to economic reasons. I was heavily in debt and needed a drastic change in my life. With over $60,000 in debt and no money, I arrived in the United States, but I had a strong determination to start over. It was a process of focus, of reorganizing myself, of setting priorities and boundaries, something I hadn’t done before. This change meant redesigning myself entirely and reconnecting with new purposes.
I immersed myself in the culture, learning English, and met my current partner, who was a great support in creating this new life. I worked deeply on myself, and as I aligned internally, everything outside of me began to fall into place. It’s now been eight years since then, and looking back, I can see how far I’ve come. Leaving my country, where I felt comfortable, leaving my friends, family, and everything I’d known for 32 years, was the biggest risk I’ve ever taken. But this risk showed me that I could start over, and that everything I once lost was just making room for new, more abundant opportunities.
At first, I focused on stabilizing my finances, but in 2018, I returned to my path of personal development. By 2020, I became even more involved with holistic techniques. I feel that without meditation, I wouldn’t have been able to get out of that difficult emotional space I was in. Meditation allowed me to see things clearly, be patient, and open myself to the possibility of doing things better.
I believe life is full of risks, one after another, and every decision we make carries some risk. I’m one of those people who was born to share knowledge. So, I didn’t just prepare myself to improve my life as an individual, I also prepared, and continue to prepare, to help others with alternative tools that offer a new, broader perspective. If I had stayed stuck in my past, in my story, I wouldn’t have been able to get out of the situation I was in. But by opening myself up to self-awareness, I allowed myself to take risks from a new place.
Today, I can say that after years of study and practice, I now enjoy a financially stable life. I’ve built my brand, Andy Vald Holistic, which has allowed me to work with holistic techniques such as Reiki, meditation, sound therapy, breathwork, and coaching, among others. I offer these services to both the Latin and English-speaking communities. It’s incredible to witness group sessions where both groups participate in a bilingual experience, breaking communication barriers and enjoying the sense of community.
I’ve also had the opportunity to work with companies, supporting them in achieving their goals with a scientific foundation while promoting the well-being of each employee. I’m deeply grateful for the leap of faith I took in 2016, which now, in 2024, allows me to live a life I love and create holistic experiences through my own project.
Of course, this has been a personal journey, but there have been key people who have supported me, who believed in me and continue to do so. It doesn’t matter if they’re near or far; they helped me stay grounded when I felt like I was losing my breath. And I can’t forget to mention my partner, Truen, who is the strongest pillar in my life and shares the results of all this hard work with me.
Andy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My journey into the wellness industry is deeply connected to my personal growth. I realized that living only in the “doing” and chasing goals without enjoying the process was disconnecting me from what truly matters. We are so accustomed to constant stress that it disrupts our nervous system, leading to illnesses, conflicts, and poor emotional intelligence. When I became aware of this, I understood that there are things I can control and others I cannot. I chose to let go, and in doing so, I reconnected with myself.
Throughout this journey, I have incorporated holistic techniques such as meditation and mindfulness, focused on stress reduction. I teach others how to implement these methods, including creating their own Reiki sessions so they can also build their practice. I specialize in sound therapy, a powerful tool that helps relieve chronic pain, improve sleep, support insomnia, and bring about deep relaxation. By understanding how frequencies can impact us, I use sound to help regulate these frequencies and enhance well-being.
My approach goes beyond guiding a session; it’s about equipping people with practical tools they can apply in their everyday lives. While the benefits of a session are profound, they aren’t sustainable without personal commitment and the knowledge of how to incorporate these practices consistently. Through coaching and personalized plans, I work on all areas of life, even on details we often overlook, like the importance of proper breathing.
Working with companies is equally rewarding for me. I view companies as large families where alignment across all areas is crucial to prevent chaos. When working with them, I analyze aspects such as break times, workplace colors, and even vending machine options, creating programs that integrate wellness practices like yoga and meditation. I remember leading a sound session at a company where the director understood the benefits and believed in providing her employees with tools to improve both their personal lives and the workplace environment.
I’m deeply passionate about what I do. My personal growth and commitment to integrity have allowed me to connect with people in a natural and authentic way. Through my brand, Andy Vald Holistic, I have created unique moments for individuals, where reflection and connection with their reality are at the forefront. In addition, I’ve developed holistic products like organic-grade ceremonial cacao, which helps people connect with the energy of love, as well as palo santo, bracelets engraved with the word “breath,” and alpaca blankets to make meditation a unique experience.
My goal is to provide anchors that make each individual’s path to personal growth more sustainable and authentic.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Absolutely! I would choose the same profession again and again. It’s something that fills me so deeply, it doesn’t even feel like work. I love working with human beings and being part of the wellness field. It’s amazing to collaborate with doctors and psychologists, offering preventive tools or acting as an ally in their treatments. I feel that it’s a meaningful contribution to society. I’m happy and proud of having chosen this path, and if I had to make the decision over and over, I would undoubtedly pick this profession every time.
The satisfaction I get from seeing people achieve their goals, stop judging themselves, love and accept who they are, is unparalleled. It’s also wonderful to witness how families elevate their relationships to another level. Knowing that I can offer a beacon of hope in a society that sometimes feels overwhelmingly negative motivates me to continue with even greater passion.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I have worked with consistency, building genuine relationships with people from various areas within the community, always striving to be an ally in their development. However, what has truly built my reputation is authenticity. The people I have connected with see in me a safe space, free of judgment, someone who is present to help them identify their barriers and guide them through the process of breaking them down.
Being myself has been and will always be my greatest asset in building a strong reputation. Authenticity allows me to be true to myself, to create sustainable relationships in my life, to meditate, to eat healthy, and to live in alignment with what I preach. When I stand in front of a room or lead a session, I am the first to do what I teach. That coherence and energy resonate with people. They see me for who I am, not for what I try to project, and that has been key to my growth.
