Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Andy Tullis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Andy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
The first real money we made as band was when we signed with a small Indie label. It wasn’t a lot but it was a first for us. There was a since of validation that we we’re on the right path musically. It lead to some wonderful experiences.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Speaking as a band, we all three have had that dream of writing our own music to become rock stars. To be on stage under the lights, playing in front of a big audience. Individually all three of us have been doing music since our teenage years. Things took off when the three of us started working together. We have created some wonderful music over the last 4 years. Last year we set a goal to release one song a month for a year and we accomplished that goal. It was a herculean task to accomplish and for fun we also completed a 14 song Instrumental Album. There’s a lot that goes into what we do and we do all of it ourselves. From writing the music, to performing the music, to production, to mixing, to mastering. Which then goes into marketing. All three of us do our equal parts. The most important thing for us has been we check our egos at the door. We take the time to try ideas and if they don’t work, we toss them aside and keep the ones that do. You can’t be afraid to try something different from what your use to because you never know where it could lead you. We write music for people to enjoy and we have a wonderful fan base. We’ll to continue to bring them more and more music and hope new fans discover us as well. Because of them we have been nominated several years in a row by the Josie’s Music Awards for different categories. This years categories include, Group of the Year, Ep Multi Genre of the Year and Instrumental Album of the Year. We hope to continue that feat next year as well. Fingers crossed.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
As song writers, the goal is to have your lyrics resonate through someone with a emotional response. So when someone likes what your throwing at their ears, this is what we like to call “Ear Candy” it’s validation, that something resonated through them and that’s all that matters.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The journey of completing our song writing goals we set for ourselves and the process of how the goals were met, with the end results being how fans react to the finished product. Knowing that we did everything in house with no outside help, with the occasional exception of musicians we hire to play a instrument we would like to hear in a song in which we don’t know how to play. Everything else was and still is the dedication to hard work with a lot of time spent learning this craft. Picking up a guitar, playing the drums and vocal warm ups whatever instrument you choose be dedicated to be the best at it. It has to become part of you, like and extra limb that you can’t be with out. That is how a musician and a vocalist becomes great. Music can heal the soul. A person can be depressed, sad, angry or happy and music can pull them through with a rhythm or lyric they hear that can give comfort or joy. This is why we love to play and write music and we wouldn’t want it any other way.
