Andria, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
Wow! This question forced me to go back to my camera roll! Lol! I remember I planned a baby shower for my first client that wasn’t a family member or friend. I sent her the invoice after our phone consultation and I was so nervous that she wouldn’t want to move forward due to the costs associated with my fees on the invoice. The very next day I received an email notification that she signed the contract and paid the invoice. Oh how that made my heart smile!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Andria Davis, I’m from Birmingham, AL. I am the owner of Harley O Events a full service wedding and special event agency. Harley O Events specializes in planning, designing, and providing decorating service for small events. In addition, we have rental specialty chairs at an affordable price. We strive to give our clients the most memorable experience and the best customer service. I’m most proud of the transformation and elevation I get to witness with our events. When I get the opportunity to bring my clients vision to life it always reminds me of Gods promises for my business. I pride myself on providing my clients with a professional experience no matter if they are family or friends, and this is what sets my business apart from others.
Fun fact: It took me weeks to come up with a name for my business. I would talk to other business owners and ask how they discovered their business name but nothing would come to me from those conversations. One day it all came to me while talking to one of my close friends; we were bouncing different names around and just like that one of the reasons I was so passionate about starting my business to begin with was looking me in the eye and she was so beautiful. I thought myself and she has a cool name as well. I named my business after my daughter, Harley Olivia Davis (Harley O Events).
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Our best source to get new clients is referrals from previous clients. 75% of our clients are from previous clients of Harley O Events.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I always enjoy reading, attending trainings, and listening to podcast related to ways to elevate my business as a small business owner. My most recent online training I attended was a training related to strategies to take your business to the next level. This training was definitely a game changer! I learned some strategies to improve customer service, revenue, and inventory that will revolutionize Harley O Events.
