We were lucky to catch up with Andreya Bishop recently and have shared our conversation below.
Andreya, appreciate you joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
Sometimes, I’d like to think that I had wish I started sooner knowing what ai know now. But there is also a big part of me that always insists that I am exactly where I need to be and and everything will fall into place with the right dedication and discipline. I officially launched my nail business at the end 2021 in October. I had basically started to prepare that whole year with teaching myself from youtube videos and Instagram reels and investing in products and materials needed. I also go a lot of insight and my questions answered from my cousin Ebony who mentored me virtually. I think starting sooner would have allowed me more practice and a wider range of clientele, but that is still attainable. I’m glad I started when I did because due to the lockdowns of the Pandemic, it allowed me time to to start up with no distractions and really study and practice in the comforts of my home. I believe I started exactly when I needed to and that is what keeps my drive.
Andreya, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Andreya Bishop, I am the owner and founder of Clawed Galz. I specialize in acrylic nail sets as well as gel-x extensions, nail art and press on nails. I’ve always been a creative and artist with an eye for paying attention to detail, so when I began my nail journey I learned pretty quickly and truly enjoy the work. I myself love getting my nails done so it only felt right to learn something I enjoy. It’s very rewarding to provide a service that can boost someone’s confidence and makes them feel good. What sets my services apart is that I truly value creating and maintaining relationships with my clients. I’m proud that I’ve made so many genuine connections with my clients that they have become my friends. Offering a more one on one experience while providing a service warms my heart because we can actually get to know each other and build a bond. My brand is big on creating a safe space for clients and anyone wanting to collaborate. I’m fair, kind and I vibe with just about everyone that meets me.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Any and everyone is welcome. I do not discriminate and I provide a safe space for all. Whether you want to be silent or chat I am open to it all. Anyone looking for a nail technician to try that cares about the health of their nails, can come to me for their services. I’m always open to trying new styles looks and ideas so my spectrum of designs is very broad.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A client can turn into a friend faster than a friend can turn into a client. And that’s okay. I had to unlearn the expectation I had for friends and family. Those who support you will support you in whatever way they can whether it is from a repost, a shout out, referring you to somebody they may or may not know, or simple utilizing you for their services maybe even one time. Whoever is meant to be serviced by you will get serviced and it could be a one time thing or on a consistent basis. Regardless, that should not stop your grind or your motivation. I’ve learned that a lot from the past couple years I’ve started my business and all it has done is made me stronger and understanding of how business goes.
