Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Andrew Weber. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Andrew thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
My first identity was a baseball player. I had dreams of playing in college and going pro just like any young athlete does. Unfortunately, I was born with an eye condition that only allows me to use one eye for focus and depth perception. I played highly competitive travel baseball in high school as a middle infielder, and my vision began to hinder my performance. I knew that my dreams of playing professionally were coming to an end.
I had the skills and experience to walk on to a small college team, but I wasn’t sold on spending a ton of time training and sacrificing my personal life for a dream that had no real potential. Around the same time, I had recently picked up my old hobby of playing the guitar. I was gifted an acoustic guitar in my junior year of high school and used what I learned from my lessons as an 11 year old to start playing classic rock and country covers.
In my senior year of high school as my baseball career was coming to an end, I performed a set of covers in a male pageant through my high school. I won the pageant thanks to my performance, and that was the first time I realized that people enjoyed my singing and playing.
Shortly after my first live performance, I was playing in my final travel tournament in Jackson, TN. Our first game got rained out, and there were more storms in the forecast. The team and I were unsure if we would be able to play at all that weekend. Walking into the hotel from the first postponed game, I found a heads-up penny on the ground. I took it as a sign that we would get to play the next day. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The entire tournament got cancelled on a Saturday. After a team dinner, I headed back into the hotel. In the same exact spot that I found the “lucky” penny, I found a guitar pick. I told my family about the strange phenomenon, and they asked what year the penny had stamped on it. The year was 1998, my birth year.
The penny and guitar pick helped to guide me away from my athletic career and into a new endeavor. I knew I had musical talent, and this unusual sign has fueled my efforts to pursue a career in music. I keep the penny and guitar pick framed in a case on my studio desk as a reminder. My life has completely changed since that weekend. I feel like I am meant to be writing and performing my songs.
I’m lucky enough to make a living as a singer-songwriter, and I am thankful that people enjoy what I do. I write about personal stories and lessons that I have learned, and I’m glad that people can connect with my music. I never see this coming to an end for me. Its my true passion, it makes me happy, and seeing the joy from strangers who dance along to my songs is a priceless experience.
Andrew, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So now that people know how I got started, let me tell you more about what I do. I write, produce, record, mix, and master all of my own music. I release my music to all of the streaming services independently and have been doing so for about 3 years now.
I believe that there is no true category/genre that I fit into. I have released music in all genres including country, rock, blues, and even hip-hop and rap. I classify myself as a country rock artist, but I enjoy doing it all. No matter what kind of music you like, I would bet I have a song out there you will love!
I am now using what I have learned in the studio to help others pursue their goals of recording and releasing music. I am currently accepting new clients to help them develop and grow as independent artists just like myself. The services I provide include co-writing, recording, music production, mixing, mastering, and digital distribution.
Even if you’re not looking to start your own career in music, I supply services that might interest you such as customized songs or jingles and of course live music performances.
The name of my business is Andrew Weber Music, LLC. The best way to reach me is via email at [email protected] or to visit my website andrewwebermusic.com
I hope to work with you soon!
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
YouTube, YouTube, YouTube and podcasts, podcasts, podcasts!! I had no background in business when I first started. I pretty much lived on YouTube and Spotify, watching and listening to different videos and podcasts in order to learn all that I have about marketing, managing, and building my own career and company.
I believe that everyone has the ability to make something big happen. You just need to find the courage to put time in and fail over and over again until you start to see results.
There are great online resources to learn from. However on the flip side of that coin, you need to explore the “real world.” Go out, talk to people, learn from their experiences, make connections, and put your ideas into action. Its terrifying to start, but the best time to get the ball rolling is now.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I already touched on this a little bit, but the most rewarding aspect of being a songwriter is watching other people connect with what I have to say. We are all human and we all share similar experiences. The fact that people can connect and relate to my own personal stories is truly incredible. There is nothing like watching strangers dance to my original music or getting a request from the audience for one of my own songs. I am just a normal guy trying to figure life out, and I can’t believe that I get to do what I do and that people actually like it. Its close to unexplainable, and I am just glad that I can help bring joy into peoples lives.
