We recently connected with Andrew Vick and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrew, thanks for joining us today. Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
I had been photographing friends’ weddings for a while, and photography was starting to feel like more than just a hobby. After spending time abroad, I found myself more focused on capturing the perfect image than anything else. That passion led me to enter the Edina Art Fair, where I displayed some of my travel photos.
The very first piece of art I ever sold was to a young woman who bought a photo of a castle in Ireland. She was of Irish heritage, and the image meant a lot to both of us. It was a special moment that made me realize the power of photography in connecting people to their stories.
Years later, after my photography business had grown, I got a call from a woman in Edina looking for a wedding photographer. As we talked, she mentioned she had purchased a piece of my work at the Edina Art Fair years before. It turned out she was the same person who bought that castle photo. And the best part? She and her fiancé were planning a wedding in Ireland.
When the time came, I had the honor of photographing her wedding in front of that very same castle. It was a full-circle moment that reminded me why I do what I do, because photography isn’t just about the images, it’s about the stories they carry and the connections they create.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started with wedding photography and quickly fell in love with the art of capturing love stories. That passion led me to open Vick Photography, where I’ve had the privilege of photographing hundreds of couples across the country and around the world.
Over time, as my wedding couples began growing their families and businesses, they started asking about family portraits and corporate photography. That’s when Vick Studios was born, our dedicated branch for family and corporate photography.
No matter what we’re photographing, our approach remains the same. We focus on capturing the heart and story behind every event, every milestone, and every moment. Beyond photography, we also create hand-designed albums and stunning wall art.
At its core, my business is about storytelling, preserving life’s most meaningful chapters through imagery that feels as real and timeless as the moments themselves.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of my work is telling love stories. I’ve photographed hundreds, maybe even thousands of weddings at this point, yet capturing genuine love never gets old. Every time I show a couple their wedding photos and see their eyes light up as they recognize their love and moments frozen in time, it gives me goosebumps. It’s a constant reminder of why I do what I do and it never ceases to inspire me.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Connecting with other wedding professionals is one of the most valuable investments you can make in your creative journey. The wedding industry is a unique, niche market with its own language and set of challenges, and getting to know planners, florists, venue managers, and caterers can offer insights that no textbook or workshop ever could. I highly recommend dedicating time to build relationships with fellow wedding vendors, attend industry events, join local groups, and don’t be afraid to reach out. These connections not only provide practical advice and insider knowledge on navigating the intricacies of wedding logistics, but they also open the door to collaborations that can elevate your work.
