We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Andrew Vandekop. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Andrew below.
Andrew, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Too often the media represents innovation as something magical that only high-flying tech billionaires and upstarts engage in – but the truth is almost every business owner has to regularly innovate in small and big ways in order for their businesses to survive and thrive. Can you share a story that highlights something innovative you’ve done over the course of your career?
The most innovative thing I’ve done by far – and what I’m most proud of – is assisting my father in developing a system that can detect the presence of water, oil and gas underneath the ground (US Patent: 10,830,915). If you look at the major players that have been granted patents in the field of detecting subterranean formations using electromagnetic depth sounding, it is full of giant, multi-national companies. And right in the middle of these industry-leading innovations, is my family’s work.
Andrew, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My wife Teisha and I own and operate Well Water Finders and spend our days traveling all over Texas, meeting fun people who either own ranches with livestock….new property and are building a dream home….or operate farms that help our community. We assist them in determining if they have sufficient groundwater under their property to support a water well. It’s so rewarding to be able to tell these landowners that even though their ground is dry and we are in a record-breaking drought, that it is possible they may have enough water to support their farms or homes, right under their feet.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word of mouth – most definitely! A piece of land without water has very little value and over and over we have assisted landowners in solving that problem. We have been very fortunate that many of our clients have shared their experience with others.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing our clientele has been serving the areas that need our service the most. When we started our business, we only served counties in Central Texas. However, the drought is not equally distributed across the state. The western part of Texas is suffering the worst effects of the drought and they are desperate for water. Our growth really started to accelerate once we opened up our services to far West Texas.
