We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Andrew Robinson . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Andrew below.
Andrew , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’m a natural artist. Drawing and creating is what I love to do on my own time. As well as paint and design logos for my brand. So as I sat in class I thought about my future and I wanted to do something that would make me happy and something I would feel comfortable doing for the rest of my life. When I started designing, I came up with multiple names throughout the years. It wasn’t until I enrolled at UMHB, is when I came up with a name that would resonate with who I am and what I stand for. My business name Ritual Slaughter stands for a “Thorough Defeat” I see myself as a warrior for God. Defeating evil on a spiritual level. I see myself as a divine Angel. The whole idea of the Heavenly Father’s wrath inflicted on evil.

Andrew , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I grew in playing sports and it’s still apart of my natural life. I can’t play football until I’m 40 so being optimistic I thought it would be smart to focus on my careers outside of sports. I’ve gotten a lot of judgment doing so. I wasn’t taken serious as an artist at the beginning until I started posting more and more work. I practice my craft everyday. I’m not here to go against the grain. I’m just doing what I love. People often have a problem trying to choose a career for you but I’ve always been the type to think for myself and follow my heart.
I’ve always hung around friends and family who love style. Style gives you a chance to express yourself through clothing. I simply just want to style my own cloths and where them myself. Also seeing others in my merchandise is the best feeling. It never gets old. I see my self as a young Virgil Abloh waiting to be discovered. Although I was contacted by an investor and we are organizing things as we speak, I’m just never satisfied as a person. I feel there is always more u can achieve and I say that in the most humbling way.
I want my clients to know I am not here to bore you, I’m here to entertain you and the world through my clothing. I’ll introduce certain knowledge that will cause you to ponder. Some of my ideas may be convoluted but trust me I am not trying to confuse you. Sometimes asking a question can introduce certain information that you or a friend may have not thought about but may spark something in you to be prolific. Also may encourage you to follow your dreams and do what you love.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My big cousin on my Step Dad side of the family has a successfull sports business by the name of (flight713sportswear) on Instagram. Also my best friend(hunchojack_) on Instagram, who played for the Cleveland browns and is now in the CFL. My cousin randomly reached out to me on Instagram and told me he likes what I’ve been doing and wants to invest in my brand. Apparently he has been looking for a brand to collaborate with and so happens I was the perfect fit for his company. Both accepted my ideas and we are putting together something big. I’m not going to rush this collaboration because as I’ve been watching Virgil Abloh and Samuel Ross and I’ve notice that rushing a project can go really bad. I rather take my time with this collaboration as I love my brand and I want it to flourish for decades maybe centuries.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I don’t know about purposely building an audience because I just do what I feel and post what I feel is cool to me. I don’t try and impress people with my art as much because I can get away from my natural creativity. With that being said if you just do your thing, you will attract more people like you. Also trust me you will lose people as well but it’s all apart of building your brand. Stay true to yourself.
