Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Andrew Reyes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Andrew , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
My journey started as an Olympic-level athlete and NCAA Champion in track and field. Competing at the highest level taught me discipline, the importance of recovery, and the deep connection between movement and longevity. That experience, combined with my background in kinesiology and therapeutic exercise, inspired me to build something that could help people—not just athletes—move better, live pain-free, and feel stronger in their everyday lives.
Starting my own practice, KinesiologyRX, was a leap of faith. The early days were tough—I had to juggle the business side with client care, all while building trust in a community that didn’t yet know the value of stretch therapy or integrative movement recovery. I started with minimal equipment and built from the ground up, offering sessions out of shared spaces until I could afford to operate independently. I also had to educate the community on why pain prevention and mobility mattered—especially for people who weren’t necessarily athletes but sat all day, worked on their feet, or had chronic pain.
One of the biggest challenges was setting prices based on value rather than comparison. As a Black business owner and former athlete, I had to overcome the doubt people often have when they see you rising in a nontraditional field. But I leaned into my purpose and stayed consistent.
If I could go back, I’d focus even sooner on branding and systems—those pieces are critical. I’d also remind myself that growth takes time, and not everyone will understand your vision right away.
For young professionals starting their own practice, my advice is this: start where you are, with what you have, and stay rooted in your “why.” Invest in your skillset, but don’t ignore the importance of relationships and marketing. Be ready to educate your audience—it’s not just about the service, it’s about the impact. And don’t wait for perfection. Just begin.

Andrew , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Andrew Garpu Reyes and I’m the founder of KinesiologyRX, a movement and recovery practice that bridges therapeutic exercise, stretch therapy, and performance science. My journey into this field began with my own story as an elite athlete. I was honored to qualify for the Olympic relay team for Liberia and ranked as one of the top 100-meter sprinters in the U.S., with a personal best of 10.30 seconds. Competing at that level taught me not only about peak performance—but also about the critical role of recovery, mobility, and pain prevention.
After retiring from professional track and earning my degree in kinesiology, I shifted my focus to helping others move, heal, and thrive—whether they were athletes, office workers, or individuals struggling with chronic pain. That’s when I created KinesiologyRX.
At KinesiologyRX, we offer:
• Stretch therapy (including PNF and assisted stretching)
• Therapeutic exercise programs for pain management
• Sports performance training (speed, strength, biomechanics)
• Percussive and vibrational therapy
• Quick recovery sessions for busy professionals (15 minutes or less)
• Wellness packages tailored for businesses, athletes, and surgical recovery
We serve a wide range of clients—everyone from athletes and dancers to people recovering from surgery, or simply dealing with the effects of sitting too long at a desk. What we truly offer is relief, restoration, and results. Whether it’s relieving tight hips, improving mobility, or helping someone walk without pain again, we meet people where they are and help them move forward—literally.
What sets us apart?
We focus on the full spectrum of human movement—from rehabilitation to high-level athletic performance. We’re not just offering a massage or a stretch session—we’re offering an integrative approach to body awareness, pain relief, and long-term performance. I believe in evidence-based practices with a human-centered, compassionate approach.
We also cater to real life. Some clients come in with 30 minutes before work, others book a quick 15-minute session to decompress after a long day. We make healing accessible—because everyone deserves the opportunity to feel better in their body.
What I’m most proud of is the trust we’ve built in our communities—especially as a Black-owned business in an industry where representation is still growing. We’ve grown from a one-man operation to a brand recognized in cities like Richland, Portland, and Vancouver. And we’ve helped countless individuals—from youth athletes to retired professionals—gain back their confidence and control over their physical health.
To new clients or followers: I want you to know this isn’t just a service—it’s a movement. You don’t have to live with tight hips, lower back pain, or limited movement. There is help. There is healing. And at KinesiologyRX, we’re here to guide you through it.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy has been a mix of authentic community engagement and results-driven service. Word-of-mouth referrals have been huge—when people feel real relief and results, they naturally tell their friends, family, and coworkers. I focus on building trust and relationships, not just filling a calendar.
Partnering with local businesses, gyms, sports teams, and wellness events has also helped me connect directly with people who need our services. I meet people where they are—whether it’s a cycling studio, a soccer field, or a recovery room—and I always educate them on how stretch therapy and movement can transform their everyday life.
Another key has been offering accessible options, like express 15-minute sessions, to make care possible even for busy professionals. That flexibility has helped retain clients who might’ve otherwise passed on self-care due to time constraints.
At the end of the day, showing up consistently, providing real value, and being genuinely invested in my clients’ progress has been the formula for growth. People feel that—and they come back.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Yes indeed
