We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Andrew Moy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Andrew below.
Andrew, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you share an anecdote or story from your schooling/training that you feel illustrates what the overall experience was like?
I was a competitive Muay Thai fighter & boxer training under retired world champion kickboxer Edge Brown. He trained and passed on all the knowledge I possessed regarding fighting, as well as coaching and training. He not only focused on the physical elements of competition but, more crucially, on the mental components as well. With a fortified mindset, I was not only prepared for competition but also motivated to embark on a career in establishing my own personal training business following my fighting career.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
After completing high school in Winter Haven, FL, I relocated to San Francisco, CA, to reside with relatives and pursue my college education. It was in San Francisco that I was first exposed to the discipline of Muay Thai, a traditional and widely practiced martial art that hails from Thailand. Over the next decade, I dedicated myself to training and competing across the nation, ultimately representing the United States as a member of Team USA at the 2010 WKA World Championships in Edinburgh, Scotland, where I earned a Silver Medal. In addition to my Muay Thai training and competitions, I also engaged in boxing, participating in numerous local events and several Golden Gloves tournaments. I took part in the 2013 USA Boxing National tournament in Spokane, WA, where I again secured a silver medal. I consider myself fortunate to have had the chance to train alongside many elite fighters and world champions in Muay Thai, boxing, and MMA.
I began coaching part-time in 2007, offering classes and private lessons as a side endeavor. By 2015, I transitioned to full-time coaching and established Andrew Moy Fitness, driven by my passion to impart my knowledge and enthusiasm for both sports to clients seeking an enjoyable and dynamic workout experience! In 2024, I moved to Alpharetta, GA, and introduced my new community to Andrew Moy Fitness. What I appreciate about training is that it is accessible to everyone, regardless of age or background; anyone can participate! And I am eager to share my extensive knowledge with all who are interested!

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Passion! The passion I have for both boxing and Muay Thai fuels my motivation to inspire my clients and deliver high-quality workouts for them. I will forever remain a student of the game. My desire to acquire more knowledge. My enthusiasm for observing the top performers in the world and understanding what distinguishes them as the best. Additionally, my commitment to imparting and sharing all that I have learned with my clients.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I know I am not the only one to experience this, but Covid was a time I had to pivot. Residing in California at the time, everything was shut down where we could no longer work indoors. That is when I brought my business outdoors and continued my role as a trainer. And in a way, my business benefited from the shutdown. Many individuals were confined indoors for work, which adversely affected their mental well-being. Therefore, the opportunity to exercise outdoors, coupled with the ability to punch and kick something, provided exceptional stress relief for numerous clients. Even now, I take pleasure in training clients outside, enjoying the abundance of sunshine and fresh air!
