Alright, Andrew thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project that I’ve worked on so far is the debut album my band just released on October 5 2024, Andrew Moore and Hooch – Artists of the Moon. I have written songs and kept them locked away for around 15 years. I have always wanted to have an original album of songs that I have written. I had the pleasure of doing so with 4 great band members and friends this year. Every song on the album is a song of personal experience and was written with 100% transparency at different points of my life and how I truly felt. I hope it hits home with our listeners.
Andrew, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I began playing music and singing with my father in upstate New York. There was a void that needed filled in entertaining crowds at a speakeasy and we formed a house band and I called it Hooch. I moved back home to Kentucky and pushed restart on my life after having two of my three children and a wife that missed home. We sold our nice cars and home and started over by trading them for modest living circumstances and searching for new jobs while I scratched my head on trying to figure out how I could still chase my dream of writing and performing music. While I searched for new band mates I landed an audition to perform at Jeff Rubys Steakhouse in Lexington Kentucky and it went well. I began playing piano solo and singing on stage and even ended up bussing tables when I wasn’t on stage to make a better paycheck. I was fortunate enough to meet our bass player Logan at a jam session in Richmond Kentucky. He stumbled upon a young guitarist in a local music store in London Kentucky. I ended up finding our saxophone player and drummer scouring the world of Facebook and we were starting down a new journey together in 2022 as Andrew Moore and Hooch. Since then we’ve been very blessed to play an impromptu show with the late great Toby Keith. We have opened a show for the city of London Kentucky for country music star Drake White. Then we decided to create our own music, recording with Sneak Attack Recording Company. In 2024 after releasing 3 of the 15 songs of our album, we were nominated for 12 different awards and won Song of the Year at the Hollywood Independent Music Awards at the Avalon Theater. We also won in Nashville at the largest independent music awards today called the Josie Music Awards held at the iconic Grand Ole Opry. We have nearly two more albums written and plan on hitting the recording studio at the start of 2025 to release sometime later in the year with brand new singles leading up to the album drop!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The outlet of writing music and being able to be completely honest with lyrics has given me a sense of fulfillment that I’ve never had before. It’s really unique to know what one of my songs is about and then find out from audience and fan feedback that it meant something entirely different to them. Music is truly a universal language and it is awesome to hear other people’s perspective while still holding it’s meaning close to your heart for your own reasons.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Renee and Warren Cobb are the music people of Kentucky in my book. They encouraged our growth as a band, as well as hosted us on radio and live video such as The Scribe TV and Overtones Live. If anyone that is wanting to get into the music industry is lucky enough to cross paths with them, they’ll be very fortunate. I can’t speak enough about how much they can help and encourage you if you are diving into the local music industry in our region.
