We recently connected with Andrew Miller and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrew, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.

We have to say releasing our first full length album was very meaningful for all of us. The timing unfortunately matched up with life pausing from the pandemic, which made everything uncertain especially in the performing arts. In January of 2020 we had just returned from our first weekender run outside of our local community, ready to finish writing and recording the LP. As crossing state lines became more restricted that year, plus our equipment at the time not being ready for livestream, band practice became non-existent for an unknown amount of time. To help close the gap of released music, we began to release some of our mastered tracks as singles. This changed our approach to the album and extended the project out further. When we did finally release ‘The Mooring’ this past fall, it was an accomplishment we all felt so incredibly proud of.

Andrew, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Carpathia began in January of 2017 with myself (Andrew Miller) on bass, Bobby Drinkwater on guitar, Jason Barsotti on drums, and singer/songwriter Samantha Alice. At its very start, Bobby was the one who created this project, bringing in Jason next, and then me. the three of us played as an instrumental group before Bobby recruited Samantha. Our music is balance of beauty and brutality cultivated from the blend of our alternative and progressive style. Often we hear that Samantha is comparable to a fusion of Maria Brink (In This Moment) and Lacey Sturm (Flyleaf), partnered perfectly with instrumentals inspired by unique bands like Gojira, Later Bring Me The Horizon, and 30 Seconds to Mars. Artists we have performed with include Papa Roach, Asking Alexandria, Bad Wolves, Puddle of Mudd, and Infected Rain, just to name a few.
Our most recent release is our debut, full-length album titled ‘The Mooring’. Since then we have been continuing to write, with a new single release campaign to begin in the near future.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?

This is a great question, it brings up a recent experience we had. We played a show for the Music Drives Us Organization earlier this month, where all proceeds went toward their mission to keep music programs in schools in our area. We believe that it’s so important to foster and encourage creativity no matter what the area in all stages of life. It’s a part of what makes our human experience so special, and for many of us, having some kind of exposure to music early in our lives was pivotal in our creative journeys. Definitely keep up the fight to fund music education.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

Social media is one hell of a beast! Our approach revolves around our goal of reaching as many ears with our music as possible. For us this looks like sharing live video performances, behind the scenes footage from shows, music videos, band practice, the writing process etc., We have an incredible team behind us that captures our moments (the good, bad, and ugly! haha) and we are so thankful for them as they help us provide continuous content for our followers across all accounts. For advice the best thing we can say is keep posting. You never know what will grab people and open them to your craft, so just keep posting! The utilization of ads is an important area to explore asl well for exposure to potential new fans- but make sure you do your research!
