We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Andrew McDonald. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Andrew below.
Andrew, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of our favorite things to brainstorm about with friends who’ve built something entrepreneurial is what they would do differently if they were to start over today. Surely, there are things you’ve learned that would allow you to do it over faster, more efficiently. We’d love to hear how you would go about setting things up if you were starting over today, knowing everything that you already know.
I wouldn’t compare myself to other photographers who are farther down the road than I was. I would use the gear that I have in front of me and to the best of my ability capture what I see and present it the way I want without any outside creative fad or influence. I’ve found the more genuine you are in what you do the more people notice and are attracted to that your work. If you want your work to stick out then make it yours not a replica of someone else’s.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My wife is the one who encouraged me to dive into photography. So it is always a plus having your spouse behind you in a business that takes a lot of time and effort.
I decided to purse wedding & elopement photography because it’s one of the most rewarding forms of photography and it truly is an amazing privilege to capture someone’s wedding day.
I always put serving my couples first on a wedding or elopement. I’m not just there to photograph, I’m there to help in anyway possible. From helping to set up to grabbing you a glass of water. The heart behind what I do is to make your day special and memorable.
Every wedding & elopement is different and I try to approach the day with a unique eye for every couple. I always ask my couples what they want to look back on most when they look at their wedding photos. This gives me good direction on where I’m going to be focusing my eye during the wedding day.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
There is no other feeling like being able to look at your work and be satisfied with the outcome. That feeling becomes even more powerful when you’re able to share that work with others and they are satisfied as well. That’s the greatest reward I receive doing photography.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Just being a hard worker and capturing moments creatively in a memorable way that leaves others inspired.
