We recently connected with Andrew Lamping and have shared our conversation below.
Andrew , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
My company and brand strives on being different from the traditional media space by offering diverse options when it comes to ideas and services. Whether it be the types of businesses we serve, the ideas we explore in video commercials, or the challenges we face, no two clients are the same. We also have a small crew that is capable of doing many different jobs on set, allowing us to offer more affordable prices to small businesses looking to make an impact in their small market area. A great example of this is a commercial we developed for a local furniture store where we told a story about a man falling in love with a dresser at a bar, marrying the dresser, being there when the dresser gave birth to a night stand, and so much more. The tagline for the commercial was, “Furniture so good, you’ll fall in love with it.”
Andrew , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I began my filmmaking journey at the age of 11 years old when I swiped my mom’s video camcorder and reenacted famous movie scenes with my friends. From there, I taught myself how to edit videos, become a better cinematographer, and direct people (especially non-actors). My fondest memories are making videos with my friends every weekend during middle school. Fast forwarding to high school, I got an apprenticeship with a well-known videographer/photographer in my area and learned a lot of the fundamentals not only in filmmaking but the business as well. Towards the end of high school, I connected with Jeff Stolhand, an LA and Austin, TX-based writer and filmmaker where I furthered my storytelling prowess both on paper and visually. This allowed me to become a better screenplay writer, earning awards from festivals and eventually producing, directing, and writing my own short films that have been debuted at festivals. During all of this, I was enrolled in Full Sail University where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Digital Cinematography where I got first place in their 240-hour film festival for my documentary “Bass Drop.” I was also salutatorian of my class. The main services I now provide for clients is anything media and advertising based. Whether it be developing a video or graphic commercial, to putting it on TV and developing future campaign ideas, my coworkers and I strive to help other businesses grow.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission driving my creative journey is to always strive to be better. Just like a lot of industries, the filmmaking and media landscape is ever changing and evolving. Trends change. Standards revolutionize. This means there is never such thing as a perfect piece of content or art. All you can do is strive to produce the best piece of work every time you are called upon.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Everyone just wants you to be honest with them. That’s what creates loyalty. Treat them like you would a friend, not a client. This process is a “we” process, not a “you and me.” We are in this together from the very beginning to the very end. That is what can yield a successful partnership and collaboration. So naturally, someone who would treat their clients that way is always keeping in touch with them.
