We were lucky to catch up with Andrew Grosvenor recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Andrew thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I first knew I wanted to pursue a creative path professionally since I was kid. I loved watching movies, anime, and reading comics. I started drawing from a young age, I was inspired by my brother who is also an artist and by the cartoons I watched as a child. Instead of drawing what I saw on the television I wanted to draw my own original created characters. I loved to draw the abnormal when it comes to my cartoon characters. I feel it takes a real creative mind to create something fresh and new. In school, other kids took notice of my art since I was always drawing, and they liked them. Not long after, other students would come up to ask for a drawing, I didn’t have a problem with it since I liked bringing someone else ideas too life, overtime I started to charge. Whether it was creating someone’s OC’s (original character) or designing logos and tattoos, I was always down to create.
Andrew , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Social media helped a lot to expand the reach of my artwork for those who wanted buy or was just a fan of my art. I started creating a lot of local rappers album covers, and logo designs for businesses. I create a mixture of doodle art and graffiti art. I love to create the cartoons on the spot, that way the ideas are fresh. The stranger the better, I just let the ideas flow. I create a attention grabbing artwork always wows the my clients and people who sees the pieces. I love to create and love the challenge of bringing someone’s ideas to life who cant themselves.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I know in my early days of doing commission work for people, some would be very indecisive. I didn’t know too much about how to price myself. Some clients would constantly change the design, not sure which direction they wanted to go. Even stranger, asking me to do a different art style opposite of my own. Some would ask for art to be done in a short period of time , like I said I wasn’t getting much. But I didn’t fold, I did my best, and know I have a better understanding of how to get people to express their ideas better.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice
NFT’s when used right can help an artist have create conceptual idea of what they want to create. NFT’s can be a great tool for artist, but as a medium it’s very flawed. A lot evidence showed known artist works were used to generate peoples Ai artwork, even down to replicating their signature. Aside from the solen art, the art lacks soul since it has none. I can’t praise an Ai artist for their work since all they did was type a prompts into a art generator. It would be the equivalent of me calling myself a graffiti artist after using one of those graffiti generator websites. It just doesn’t make much since.
