We recently connected with Andrew Detherow and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrew, thanks for joining us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I love being a business owner because it allows me to explore my love for something I can take with me.and teach others. Photography has always been a creative tool that not only has so many ends and outs to it but it also makes you think of your next big event. Having a regular job isn’t always fun Since you have to fall underneath the power of some other supervisor or upper management. To some that seems like the best things while on the the other hand, I love being my own boss. In conclusions, any job or role you may be put into will have its flaws as a business in whole. – One thing I can say as a CEO is that, I’m able to make changes when I need versus waiting months to have to go through a chain of command in a typical job. I get told everyday that I was born to be my own boss since everyone sees the leader type in me. – You should never let no one tell you that you can’t accomplish a dream just because they don’t live in your shoes and have been through your trials and errors as a person.
Andrew, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Little about me, my name is Andrew Detherow and I was originally born in Odesa Ukraine. I was adopted into a family that wanted to help me achieve my dreams that I wanted as a child at seven years old. Growing up I didn’t get to see my real parents as I was put into an orphanage. As years went by and I came to the United States of America, I have accomplished a lot of goals. As a kid, I loved playing with technology and camera’s which lead me to what I do today. I went to Georgia Gwinnett College where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Film. A few months later I received my business license which has allowed me to be an official business for all. Some of the services that my photography business provides can include; Weddings, On-Stage Performances, Photoshoots, School events, church Events, baby showers, Graduations, headshots and family portraits. As a well-known celebrity photographer, I get to meet so many clients that vary from actors, actresses, models, dancers to Celebrities. Some of the problems that I’m able to solve with my clients is like being able to work around their schedule or when things come up. There will be times when situations will pop up and make your client have to occur upon us and make us having to reschedule for that reason. This allows us both to come up with a game plan of different goals like; picking different locations, times, choosing a day when the two of you can have a few hours to take nice photos. Some of the things that set me apart from most is that I’m very reasonable with my prices and don’t ever over charge people for photos. I also allow people to keep all of their pictures including the ones that we don’t pick together. I tell everyone every day that why only let your clients pick only four pictures out of one hundred. What I am most proud of is that I have built such a big Fan Base around my business name Andrew Detherow Photography. I love that when ever people see me or my photography portfolio they get a real understanding of what hard work looks like when you put your mind to something. I would also like to give a big shout out to another photographer that I have worked with Deja Pope. Deja captures great shots by using different angles and her surroundings to snap that perfect image. I want all of my clients, fans and everyone that supports me to know that Andrew Detherow Photography specializes in “Capturing the perfect image every time” – ADP.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
– I can say that most rewarding aspect of being an creative is using the tools and techniques that you learned while in film schools. One thing that has helped me out over the years as a photographer has been coming up with different themes, angels, wardrobe and lighting. Being creative in my books means that you have an eye for details and will make sure to grab all of the different looks of your models. People always come up to me or even text me and tell me how nice my photos come out. I appreciate the love that people have in me. One aspect that I go for is the way that I position my clients to get the angle I’m looking for. Another reason for being a creative person is the perks that’s comes with it like being to choose your own background or even props.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
– Deja Pope and I met while working at the same job and as time went on we learned that we both had the love for photography and the art that comes with it. Ever since then the two of us have partnered up to capture the perfect image in every photoshoot that we do. Just a couple fews ago we planned a winter photoshoot at Roswell Mill waterfall with some models. Here is some of the things we did to plan for it. I had Deja look for different spots out in atlanta with a cool story or there Behind it. We then met up at the waterfall and did a walk through of the different spots that we would like to do our photoshoot at. We had five models come out and bring there model looks upon us. Some of these models included; Sequcoiyah Hithe, Latoya Aneumi, Summer Red, Laeah Jae, Naimah Lanae. The photoshoot came out nice since Deja and I had a vision for how we wanted the models to dress for the different locations we had picked out.
