Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Andrew Childress Jr. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Andrew thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
To be honest, taking a risk for me was launching the podcast because you’re putting your idea out to the world, not necessarily in hopes of reception, but hoping that the message is clear. Taking that type of risk in any endeavor is always going to be tough, but it’s worth it through all the adversity, hardships, and things it takes to build out an idea. It’s so worth it.
The reason I took the risk is that I felt like I didn’t have a place to get my voice out. I was going through some things at that point in my life when I decided to start writing this idea back in 2019. However, during that timeframe, I didn’t think it was feasible, so I just sat on the idea. Fast forward to 2021, my daughter was born, and I felt compelled to launch the podcast because I wanted to be an example to her of what it looks like to persevere through adversity and use your voice for good. So far, it’s been a journey of highs and lows, but again, it’s been worth it.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have a background in the arts from childhood up until college, so podcasting wasn’t a far stretch from what I was doing all that time. Podcasting gave me the space to speak my mind, use my voice for good, reach people in a meaningful way, and connect with individuals from various backgrounds and disciplines.
I believe what sets my show apart from others is that it isn’t categorized into just one thing or one genre. I wanted the show to be diverse in such a way that anyone could listen to it and find something they could gravitate toward, and that’s what I’ve leaned on for the entire journey.
What I am most proud of is persevering through the adversity of learning the landscape of podcasting, finding the rhythm and lane that works for what I want to convey, creating an identity that’s unique to the vision I set out to achieve, and being flexible to make the necessary changes to move the show forward. You encounter hardships on a journey such as podcasting, and many podcasts don’t last beyond 10 episodes. So the fact that I’ve reached episode 62 and am still finding ways to continue makes me very proud.
I don’t know what the future holds, but I will continue to nurture and grow this podcast and take it as far as I possibly can. I encourage anyone who has a goal, dream, or vision to do the same.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Pivoting is part of the journey. I remember having to pivot early on, whether it was changing cohosts, locations, the direction of conversations, or the formatting, software, and hardware. Nearly every aspect of what I do has had to pivot at some point.
This taught me to be flexible in my growth pattern because things don’t always go as planned. Sometimes there are curveballs, obstacles, or unexpected variables, and you have to be willing to pivot to keep growing. If you get too set in your plan, you might hinder your growth and limit your potential.
Stay flexible, embrace diversity, overcome adversity, and remain true to your vision while expanding it where needed is the underlying message.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I’ve read several books that have greatly influenced my balanced thinking on this journey, such as ‘The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck,’ ‘The Four Agreements,’ ‘Contagious,’ ‘Ego Is the Enemy,’ and the Bible. While these are just a few among many I’ve read, they all offer valuable insights on maintaining balance as I navigate life and my podcast journey. In addition to reading, I find journaling calming. Plus, therapy has been a crucial staple in my life, adding to my overall thinking and philosophy.
