We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Andrew Brumagen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Andrew below.
Alright, Andrew thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
In a whole, starting a band is a huge project. You have to find the right people who can work alongside each other and are extremely motivated, passionate, and have a creative mindset. When we first started out, we did not have a place to get together and practice or write music. It went from renting out a friend’s garage and could only get about 8 hours a month of practice to renting out our own studio space at Crybaby Studios, There are a lot of speed bumps when starting out, but as long as you have chosen the right team, it can be the most meaningful thing to be part of.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We started out in March of 2022 after our bassist, Andy Brumagen, reached out to three of his close friends: Will Lago(guitar), Cameron Evans(drums), Saxon Sparks(vocals), then later on Jacob Ian Lord(guitar/vocals) to start up Swamp Church. We have visions of using our music to help promote mental health awareness and standing up for those who feel like they cannot speak up. We started out with the idea of getting together and possibly playing a few shows here and there, but then we took the scene by storm with our unique tones and riffs. A year after starting, we have released our first single, “Nightmare” and a whole album is currently in the works. With all members having over a decade of musical experience playing many different genres, our unique sound comes with influences of: death metal, hardcore, thrash, and even little hints of punk.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When it comes to building a fan base, you need to know the right and wrong ways to engage with your audience. Promoting on social media can be a very hard thing to be successful at. Reading and studying up on how and when to post at what time and day of the week. When it comes to releasing content, like music, you need to learn the algorithms behind your releases. There are certain days of the week and evens months that you don’t want to release on. Learning up on the proper ways to gain an audience has helped us immensely grow our message, Endless hours of studying marketing and promoting in the music industry has given us the opportunity for us to put our names and work out there for the whole world to enjoy at their leisure.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Our decision to take the fully independent route for recording and production has been a rocky road of lessons and trials. From committing to tempos and tones, to learning how to set up drum mics; we have stumbled and learned along the way. We purchased all the various equipment required to record and put our heads in the books to learn as much as we could about recording, audio production, distribution, and networking to get our feet off the ground. We’ve had to learn the hard way how to plan and schedule recording sessions to be productive and efficient through extensive trial and error. but its culminated in a sound we can all be proud of; Authentic Swamp Church Sonic Stimulation.
