We were lucky to catch up with Andrés Porras Gutiérrez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Andrés, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
We help people who do not have access to education and migrants, who are often misunderstood and lack basic services and rights.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Fundación COMUNIDAR began because a group of citizens of Monterrey agreed on the search for strategies to solve the social problems of the region. Since mid 2011, meetings were held with the purpose of answering the following questions:
How to foster a culture in which social problems are recognized by the community and its members seek to solve them without waiting for external solutions?
How to unite the efforts of civil organizations and link them together?
How to take advantage of people’s solidarity to form new generations with greater civic commitment?
In March 2012, Fundación COMUNIDAR was established with the conviction that it is urgent to create a far-reaching citizen project for Monterrey and its metropolitan area.
Thanks to the guidance of Comunalia and the financial support of the company Frisa, the founding team’s aspiration has become a reality.

How’d you meet your business partner?
I wasn’t looking for a job, I wanted to let a few weeks or months go by, and two friends sent my CV to the Foundation and that’s how we got in contact.
